Job description

Job Summary:
The VP, HSE is responsible for the development and implementation of  health,   safety and environmental programs. The VP, HSE works with other managers and clients to ensure that all employees are aware of and comply with all safety regulations. This leader also develops and conducts training programs on safety procedures, human performance and monitors the work environment to ensure that it is safe. The VP, HSE works closely with the company's outside legal department to ensure that the company is in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations. 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  1. Create and send out weekly Safety newsletters to all RPG corporate, field supervisors, and field employees. 
  2. Managing incident/accident evaluations and investigations for all RPG work at the various sites in the US.
  3. Managing Worker's comp claims and injury cases to include setting up files, tracking and providing routine updates
  4. Continuously auditing and aligning the RPG Safety program to maintain concurrence with OSHA regulations as well as our clients' programs.
  5. Continuously evaluating HSE systems and leadership behaviors that optimize human performance that support safe and sustainable practices and procedures.
  6. Maintain contact with our client's safety departments to ensure RPG compliance with client programs
  7. Evaluate and conduct onsite safety training requirements during orientation such as fall protection, forklift, elevated work platforms, etc. for RPG personnel based on initial start of client projects
  8. Travel to RPG jobsites as necessary to evaluate hazards and mitigation strategies.
  9. Lead the Safety Team in day-to-day operations.
  10. Demonstrate an understanding of Root Cause Analysis and Apparent Cause Analysis and their application to incident investigation.
  11. Lead accident/incident investigations utilizing root cause and apparent cause evaluation techniques and provide proactive feedback to prevent reoccurrence.
  12. Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of existing standards applying to hot work/ fire prevention, rigging, and lifting operations, confined space classifications and supervisory responsibilities, electrical safety with high voltage equipment (arc flash safety), rotating and machining equipment.
  13. Implement continuous improvement practices across all safety policies and procedures.
  14. Continually audit and adapt company policy and procedures to align and ensure compliance with client programs as well as federal and state regulations.
  15. Ability to obtain and maintain Fall Protection Competent Personal Qualification
  16. Represent Executive Team at official site functions and meetings.
  17. Build strong relationships with client, have interface with client supervision and employees 
  18. Ability to function within a fast-paced environment  
  19. Receives regulatory obligations for the organization and assign to the respective department heads to ensure compliance
  20. Responsible for maintaining compliance for company policies and procedures 
  21. Maintain comprehensive records for your department within the company electronic filing system and other software.
  22. Performs other related duties as requested. 
 
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
 
  1. Currently hold or have held at a minimum STS or STSC. CHST or OHST is preferred.
  2. Currently hold or have held OSHA 500 or 501 in the past 10 yrs.
  3. 15+ years' experience in a Construction and General Industry Safety Professional / Manager role
  4. 3+ years leading a HSE department for a Heavy Industrial Construction organization with at least $100MM in annual revenue.
  5. Carries out daily responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, client/ site-owner policies, and applicable laws.
  6. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures.
  8. Work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals.

  20. Must possess the willingness and ability to complete and pass all pre-employment and employment screening requirements which may include but are not limited to medical, psychological, background and substance abuse screenings.
  21. Requires all employees, while on company business, to hold a valid DL and company approved MVR. 
 
 
Education and Experience:
 
  1. Bachelor's degree preferred
  2. 20+ years' experience.
 
Physical Requirements:
 
  1. Employee will frequently walk; climb or balance; will regularly stand; will occasionally sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  2. Periodically consists of sedentary work with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on computer or using telephone
  3. Frequent sitting, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
  4. Walking standing reaching pushing pulling lifting required occasionally
  5. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer screen; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small effects, small parts and or operation of office equipment at distances close to the eyes
  6. Responsibility for various task carried out in the corporate office or home office.
  7. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
  8. Travel required up to 25%, attending meetings, as scheduled.
