What is an HRIS manager?

An HRIS Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and maintaining a company's Human Resources Information System (HRIS). They ensure that the HRIS supports HR operations, including payroll, benefits, recruiting, and compliance reporting. HRIS Managers also analyze data, implement system upgrades, and train staff on system usage. Their role bridges the gap between HR and IT, helping to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of HR processes.

What is an HRIS manager?

HRIS stands for human resource information system, which is software that organizes employee data. An HRIS manager oversees the development and implementation of new software or systems that help the HR department track worker data. As an HRIS manager, you analyze employee data in the system and make recommendations to upper management about how to improve employee efficiency and streamline human resources processes. To pursue a career as an HRIS manager, you need a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field, several years of experience as a business or HR analyst, and strong leadership qualities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an HRIS manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an HRIS Manager, you need expertise in human resources processes, data management, and a bachelor’s degree in HR, IT, or a related field. Familiarity with HRIS systems like Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, or Oracle, along with certifications such as SHRM-CP or PHR, are highly valuable. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities help you collaborate across departments and ensure data accuracy. These skills are crucial for optimizing HR operations, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining compliance within an organization.

What are some common challenges an HRIS manager faces when implementing new HR technologies?

HRIS Managers often encounter challenges such as integrating new systems with existing HR software, ensuring data accuracy and security, and managing change across the organization. They must work closely with both IT and HR teams to coordinate data migration and user training, addressing any resistance to new processes. Effective communication and strong project management skills are essential to overcome these hurdles and ensure a smooth transition.

Product Manager, Integrations (Payroll & HRIS)

Finch

San Francisco, CA • On-site, Remote

$169K - $184K/yr

Full-time

Re-posted 17 days ago

Job description

At Finch, we're redefining the way employment infrastructure is built. Our platform powers innovative, developer-first solutions that connect HR, payroll, and benefits data seamlessly. Our integration network with hundreds of HRIS and payroll systems is the foundation of this infrastructure, and we're looking for a Product Manager to lead its strategy, development, and execution.

As the PM for our HRIS & Payroll Integrations, you'll own the systems at the heart of Finch's connectivity - everything that goes into establishing, expanding, and maintaining reliable connections across our provider network. That spans how connections are authenticated, how broadly and deeply we cover HRIS and payroll data, how we exchange data with providers, and how we keep our integrations performant and dependable at scale. You'll sit at the center of product, engineering, and customer teams to grow coverage, deepen adoption, and drive the scalability, data quality, and reliability that our customers depend on.

What You'll Do
  • Own and evolve Finch's HR & Pay integrations across auth, coverage expansion, writeback, and data sync - critical building blocks of our platform.
  • Partner closely with Engineering to shape the strategy for integration architecture and data sync infrastructure, ensuring scalability, high performance, and reliability.
  • Define and track key product metrics and use data to inform decisions, prioritization, and success criteria.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Success, and Product Marketing to align customer feedback with product development.
  • Champion developer experience by delivering clear documentation, easy onboarding, and fast issue resolution.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in APIs, data platforms, and developer tooling to ensure Finch remains best-in-class.
What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of experience in B2B product management, ideally in API, integrations, or platform-focused roles.
  • Deep technical understanding of APIs, data systems, authentication, and modern integration patterns.
  • Previous experience working with or building developer platforms or infrastructure products.
  • Strong communication skills - you can talk tech with engineers and translate complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Passion for solving abstract, ambiguous problems and turning them into clear product opportunities.
  • A user-centric mindset with relentless attention to detail and quality.
What We Offer
  • Competitive equity with a 10-year exercise window
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage (100% for employees, 85% for dependents)
  • Unlimited PTO (with a 3-week minimum)
  • 401(k) plan
  • Regular team offsites and meetups
  • Hybrid work: 2+ days/week in our SF Office
Finch’s compensation package includes a competitive base salary benchmarked against real-time market data, as well as equity for all full-time roles. We want all full time employees to be invested in Finch and to be able to take advantage of that investment, so our equity grants include a 10-year exercise window.

We also offer exceptional benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans. Our minimum salary range for this role is: $169,000 - $184,000.

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
