Job Description

JOB TITLE: Head Teacher DEPT: Early Learning Division

REPORTS TO: Site Manager

SALARY RANGE: Grade 5 STARTING SALARY: $20.06/hr-$27.47/hr.

JOB SUMMARY: Assist the Site Manager in the daily oversight of site operations, including assurance of compliance with mandates and standards established to ensure a high-quality program.

CHILDREN SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for the oversight of child supervision and for keeping children safe.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the Site Manager in the following areas:

  1. Establish a work schedule and supervision of all site staff, ensuring adequate coverage at all times.
  2. Assist in conducting regular health and environmental checklists.
  3. Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment. Ensure that the classroom's furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
  4. Management of all inventories for the site(s), including but not limited to furniture, forms, office, and classroom supplies.
  5. Meet regularly with the Site Manager to exchange information relevant to site operations and child services.
  6. Coordinate with support staff when needed to develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children and families at the site.
  7. Ensure that record keeping, documentation, and follow-ups are completed for assigned site(s).
  8. Conduct performance appraisal on all supervised staff.
  9. Conduct site orientation for new employees, volunteers, and consultants.
  10. Adhere to Alliance for Community Empowerment Inc. policies and procedures related to prevention and response to COVID-19, including participating in training, use of PPE, implementation of universal precautions, social distancing, and keeping the workspace clean.
  11. Assist with daily health screening and monitoring as related to COVID-19.
  12. Maintenance of ongoing program statistics and updated enrollment information.
  13. Coordination of various center logistics, e.g., calendar, transportation, substitutes, food service, and USDA.
  14. Participate in Child Placement Team meetings.
  15. Encourage and support family engagement in all aspects of the program.
  16. Maintenance of licensure compliance and all regulatory requirements.
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, plus one year of demonstrated success as a Teacher in an ECE setting
  • Or an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, plus three years demonstrating success as a Teacher in an ECE setting
  • Knowledge and experience in data collection and information processes and systems, along with knowledge of childcare regulations, policy, and procedure compliance. Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills and knowledge of various processes, including database management, spreadsheet, word processing, internet, and email.
  • Must obtain knowledge of Federal Head Start ERSEA Performance Standards, philosophy, and mission.
  • Ability to produce written reports and documentation.
  • At least one year of supervisory/management experience is required.
  • Valid CT driver’s license with a good driving record and ability/willingness to travel.
  • Bilingual helpful but not required.
