Job description

Location: Hattie Mae White Department: Instructional Data Integrations Area:District Wide Contract Months:12 Salary Range: $84,127.00 - $138,810.00 Academic Year: 25-26 JOB SUMMARY The Architect - Instructional Data Integrations designs, builds, and maintains student data integrations between Houston ISD's SIS and a broad set of instructional and operational platforms. This includes ensuring student rosters, grades, program data, and attendance records flow accurately into learning systems, assessment platforms, and state-mandated applications. The Architect works closely with both technical and academic teams to build secure, automated, and scalable data solutions that support instructional excellence

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Develop and maintain integrations between SIS and instructional platforms (LMS, assessment tools, special programs). 2.

Write and manage scripts or ETL tools that prepare and deliver student data for external systems. 3. Ensure data mappings and formats meet vendor and district requirements.

4. Monitor integration jobs and alerts, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance. 5 Document technical processes, schemas, and dependencies for team and vendor use.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED 6. Partner with academic teams to validate data requirements and support onboarding of new tools. 7.

Collaborate with security and governance staff to uphold FERPA and HISD privacy requirements. 8. Support real-time rostering, daily syncs, and critical grading or reporting deadlines.

9. Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to architectural planning. 10.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent combination of education and at least five (5) years of relevant experience. WORK EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years in data integration, SIS support, or software development.

Prior experience in education systems preferred. SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Experience with APIs, flat-file transfers, and integration platforms Working knowledge of PowerSchool or other SIS data structures Familiarity with LMS and rostering standards such as OneRoster or Ed-Fi Strong scripting or coding skills (e.g., Python, SQL, PowerShell) Detail-oriented with strong documentation and troubleshooting capabilities Experience with student data privacy and compliance standards LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Works independently and may coordinate with junior team members or vendors. Collaborates closely with analysts and architects

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT Solves moderate to complex data integration issues. Apply judgment to ensure data accuracy, usability, and compliance. BUDGET AUTHORITY None.

May provide input on tools and platforms used to support integrations. PROBLEM SOLVING Diagnoses integration errors, data mismatches, or failed deliveries and implements secure, scalable fixes. IMPACT OF DECISIONS Impacts the accessibility and accuracy of instructional tools used by thousands of teachers and students.

COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS Coordinates with application owners, academics, SIS administrators, and vendors. Participate in cross-functional planning. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS Supports teachers, students, and instructional leaders by ensuring seamless digital learning experiences through accurate system integrations.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Office work environment. May require extended hours during integration launches, SIS transitions, or academic year rollovers, hybrid setting available. Houston Independent School District is an equal opportunity employer.
