Job description

Bemana is seeking a Switchgear Technician in Chesapeake, VA, to perform high-level technical service on low and medium voltage power distribution equipment. This role is ideal for a hands-on expert who can transition seamlessly between in-shop breaker overhauls and field-based troubleshooting. You will join a premier, independently owned facility that has been a leader in the electrical machinery repair industry for many years.

Job Duties:
  • Perform hands-on disassembly, component inspection, repair, reassembly, and testing of low and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues involving protective relaying and switchgear controls in both shop and field environments.
  • Conduct in-shop breaker overhauls and comprehensive field testing of power distribution systems.
  • Train personnel in the proper techniques for troubleshooting, repairing, and testing power equipment.
  • Travel significantly to various customer sites to provide professional technical services and maintain safe working conditions.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in the power distribution industry with a deep understanding of NETA standards, IEEE specifications, and NEMA specifications.
  • Strong application knowledge of all switchgear types, including their operation, maintenance, and testing.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; higher vocational training (e.g., AVO Substation Maintenance) and NETA or NICET Level 1-4 certifications is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, work at heights, pass a medical physical, and clear both drug and background screenings.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be prepared for significant travel.
