Job description


We are seeking a Wastewater Supervisor for our East Chicago, IN location who is compliance-focused and technically experienced. This leader will oversee a team of hourly wastewater operators and ensure adherence to all IDEM and EPA regulations. The ideal candidate is licensed, detail-oriented, and committed to operational excellence in a high-priority treatment environment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and procedures
  • Supervises daily operation of wastewater systems, including activated sludge and nutrient-removal processes
  • Oversees a team of four union hourly operators; ensures proper scheduling, accountability, and performance
  • Monitors and responds to SCADA system data (interface only) to optimize plant performance
  • Ensures accurate reporting and recordkeeping in compliance with IDEM and EPA requirements
  • Leads incident response for process upsets and participates in the on-call/emergency response rotation
  • Collaborates across departments to support integrated operations and environmental compliance
  • Promotes a performance-driven, safety-conscious, compliant work culture

Qualifications
  • Indiana Class IV Wastewater Operator License (preferred/required depending on experience)
    • A Class D License is acceptable; however, candidates must successfully test into a Class IV.
    • Candidates with a lesser license but strong relevant experience may also be considered.
    • Licensing Requirement:
      Candidates hired without a Class IV License must obtain and successfully test into the Class IV Wastewater Operator License within six (6) months of hire or within a reasonable timeframe determined by the business.
  • 5-6 years of hands-on wastewater operations experience (industrial or municipal)
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of IDEM, EPA, and Clean Water Act compliance requirements
  • Ability to interpret SCADA output and plant operations data (no programming required)
  • Effective communication, performance management, and conflict-resolution skills in a union environment
  • Computer proficiency (Office 365 and plant compliance systems)
  • Willingness to participate in on-call coverage and emergency response
