Job description

Company Description

This is more than a General Manager role.

It is the opportunity to lead one of Sofitel's most iconic hotels at the beginning of a new era—following its landmark transformation and repositioning as one of the flagship of the brand.

Company Description

French elegance. Manhattan energy. A new era of luxury.

Following a landmark transformation, Sofitel New York has been reimagined as the flagship Sofitel property in North America. Inspired by the shared Art Deco heritage of Paris and New York, the hotel blends timeless French sophistication with the unmistakable energy of Manhattan, creating a refined urban sanctuary in the heart of Midtown.

Located just steps from Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park and the Theater District, Sofitel New York has recently completed a comprehensive renovation of its guestrooms, suites, public spaces and culinary experiences, including the launch of the new Social 45 Bar & Bistro. This transformation represents far more than a renovation—it marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of the brand's most iconic luxury hotels.

Emerging as a pioneering French luxury hospitality brand in 1964, Sofitel brings French Art de Vivre to the world's most sought-after destinations, creating refined and memorable experiences for travelers who appreciate understated luxury, culture and meaningful human connections.

Joining Sofitel New York means leading one of the brand's most visible hotels at a defining moment in its history—shaping its future, elevating its reputation and reinforcing its position as the benchmark for French luxury hospitality in North America.

Job Description

As General Manager, you will lead the next era of Sofitel New York.

Following the hotel's transformation and repositioning, you will have the unique opportunity to build upon this momentum—bringing the renewed vision to life through exceptional leadership, commercial excellence and an unwavering commitment to luxury hospitality.

This role extends far beyond hotel operations. You will be the public face of the hotel, representing Sofitel New York across the city's luxury ecosystem while inspiring your team to create experiences that are distinctly French, unmistakably New York and deeply memorable.

You will lead one of Sofitel's flagship properties, strengthening relationships with owners, guests, luxury partners, media, cultural institutions and the local community while building an engaged, high-performing leadership team.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead all aspects of the hotel's operational and commercial strategy, ensuring outstanding business performance and long-term value creation.
  • Inspire, coach and develop a passionate leadership team that embodies Sofitel's culture and the French Art de Vivre.
  • Serve as the ambassador of Sofitel New York, strengthening the hotel's presence within the luxury hospitality, lifestyle, fashion, arts and business communities.
  • Build meaningful relationships with owners, VIP guests, key accounts, travel partners, media and local stakeholders.
  • Champion the Sofitel brand by bringing luxury storytelling and elevated guest experiences to every touchpoint.
  • Drive revenue growth, profitability and market positioning through strong commercial leadership and financial discipline.
  • Foster innovation, creativity and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Create an environment where Heartists® feel empowered, engaged and inspired to deliver exceptional luxury experiences every day.
Qualifications

We are seeking an inspiring, charismatic and commercially driven leader with:

  • Proven success as a General Manager within the luxury hotel segment.
  • Extensive experience leading complex luxury hotel operations.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering sustainable business performance.
  • Exceptional leadership and talent development capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication, networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong visibility within the luxury hospitality industry and comfort representing the hotel at high-profile events.
  • Experience working with international luxury hotel brands, ideally within the Accor Luxury portfolio.
  • Experience in the North American luxury hospitality market is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated success leading luxury hotels through repositioning, major renovation, opening or significant transformation is highly valued.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory. French and additional languages are considered an asset.

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate is a highly visible luxury hotelier who naturally builds relationships, enjoys representing the hotel externally, and thrives in an environment where commercial presence, networking, storytelling and people leadership are equally as important as operational excellence.

  • Serve as an ambassador for Sofitel within the local community and the global luxury hospitality landscape.
  • Foster innovation, curiosity and continuous learning.
