Job description

BLUEBIRD FENCE

OUTSIDE SALES REPRESENTATIVE

THE PERSON

Are you a relationship-driven sales professional who believes the best way to earn someone's business is to listen first and sell second? Do you enjoy meeting new people, understanding what matters to them, and helping them find the right solution without relying on pressure or gimmicks? Are you motivated by the opportunity to control your earning potential while representing a company and product you can genuinely believe in? If you are a driven, genuine, and relationship focused salesperson who knows how to turn trust into results, we want to talk to you!

Our ideal Outside Sales Representative is:

  • A Genuine Relationship Builder: You connect easily with people because you're authentic, approachable, and interested in understanding them. Customers confide in you because you listen before you recommend.
  • A Driven Competitor: You have a strong work ethic and take ownership of your results. Success motivates you, but yesterday's win never becomes an excuse to become complacent tomorrow.
  • A Consultative Problem Solver: You aren't interested in pushing a product just to make a sale. You ask great questions, understand the customer's situation, and use your knowledge to guide them toward the solution that makes the most sense.
  • An Adaptable Learner: You're curious, coachable, and willing to learn new products, technology, processes, and ways of doing things. You are confident in your abilities without allowing ego to get in the way of improvement.
  • A Person of Character: Honesty, loyalty, respect, and doing the right thing aren't sales techniques; they're part of who you are. You treat customers and coworkers with integrity and represent BlueBird Fence in a way that builds trust long after the sale is complete.

Our ideal Outside Sales Rep is intelligent, self-motivated, and hungry to keep improving, no matter how much success you have already achieved. You bring a strong work ethic, sound judgment, and the ability to understand different customers and adapt your approach without ever becoming fake or losing sight of who you are. As a trusted representative of BlueBird Fence, your ability to take ownership, deliver results, and consistently create great customer experiences will strengthen the company's reputation and fuel its continued growth. This is your opportunity to challenge yourself, maximize your potential, and play a meaningful role in helping us reach the next level.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Outside Sales Rep role include, but are not limited to:

Estimating & Project Preparation

  • Accurately measure properties, determine material requirements, and prepare complete estimates using BlueBird Fence's established estimating tools and processes.
  • Develop a working knowledge of HOA requirements, local ordinances, permitting, property considerations, and other requirements that may impact a customer's project.
  • Review property surveys, site plans, measurements, and other available information to identify potential project considerations before work moves forward.
  • Maintain accurate customer notes, measurements, attachments, estimates, and project information within necessary systems.
  • Ensure sold projects are thoroughly documented and prepared for a smooth transition from sales to the operations and installation teams.

Sales Performance & Accountability

  • Take ownership of your assigned territory, independently managing your schedule and spending the majority of each workday in the field traveling between customer properties and conducting face-to-face consultations.
  • Effectively manage approximately five pre-scheduled customer appointments each day, balancing travel and productivity with the time and attention needed to provide every customer with a high-quality experience.
  • Utilize internal CRM, digital estimating tools, and automated sales systems to manage opportunities, monitor customer activity, maintain follow-up, and move prospective customers through the sales process.
  • Consistently work toward established sales and closing expectations, including a target of approximately ten sold projects per week.
  • Develop a strong understanding of our products, pricing, processes, and capabilities so you can confidently represent BlueBird Fence and educate customers in the field.
  • Embrace coaching, new technology, changing processes, and opportunities to strengthen your sales approach as we continue to grow.

** This is a full-time, remote, field-based position requiring candidates to live within a 60-mile radius of the Southern Indianapolis area. **

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 3+ years of successful outside sales experience with a demonstrated ability to build relationships, manage opportunities, and close business.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, CRM systems, and digital sales tools with the ability to manage customer documentation and quickly learn new technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to listen, ask thoughtful questions, educate customers, and clearly communicate recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a field-based schedule, prioritize multiple customer appointments, maintain timely follow-up, and remain accountable for results.

Preferred

  • Previous sales experience within fencing, roofing, windows, siding, landscaping, decks, garages, sheds, pools, or another home improvement or construction-related industry.
  • Experience measuring properties, determining project requirements, and preparing customer estimates or proposals.
  • Familiarity with property surveys, site plans, blueprints, permitting requirements, HOA guidelines, or other factors that impact residential improvement projects.
  • Existing relationships with builders, contractors, developers, property managers, commercial customers, municipalities, or other potential referral and business partners.

Desired

  • Exposure to residential, commercial, agricultural, or specialty fencing products, materials, and installation practices.
  • Knowledge of Housecall Pro or a comparable field service, estimating, or customer management platform (Salesforce, HubSpot, JobNimbus, Buildertrend, or similar systems to manage opportunities and customer communications).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
  • Comfort with the Southern Indianapolis market, including communities, municipalities, development activity, and local property considerations.
