Histology Technologist I
Full-time / 40 hours per week / 1st shift
Akron City campus

Summary:
Performs standard and specialized laboratory procedures in preparation of tissue, biological materials, and body fluids for microscopic examination by staff pathologists.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. High School Diploma with 2 years' work experience in a laboratory setting.
OR
b. Associates of Science degree with 1 year work experience in a laboratory setting
OR
c. High School Diploma with completion of Histology Trainee Program.
d. Registry certification or eligible at technician level preferred.
2. Experience & Training Required:
a. One (1) year previous experience as a Histology Technologist preferred.
b. A minimum of 12 continuing education credits are required to be completed each calendar year for continued employment
3. Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow detailed laboratory procedures and instructions
b. Manual dexterity sufficient to perform delicate precise dissection procedures, operate cutting instrumentation (microtome), fixing and staining equipment, mix and prepare stains and solutions, and perform preventive and daily maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
c. Skill in use of computers or ability to acquire such skills to operate application packages used by department
d. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
4. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Medium: Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or ten to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force continuously to move objects.
