Job description

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a leading national laboratory organization to recruit an experienced Histology Supervisor for a high-volume pathology laboratory in Scottsdale, Arizona. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned histology professional who enjoys leading teams, driving quality initiatives, and ensuring operational excellence in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

The Histology Supervisor will oversee daily departmental operations, provide technical leadership to laboratory staff, and support regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and employee development initiatives. This individual will work closely with laboratory leadership to maintain efficient workflow and deliver high-quality diagnostic services.

Location: Scottsdale, AZ
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Mornings
Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the daily operations of the Histology department.
  • Provide direction, coaching, scheduling, and performance management for histology personnel.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, training, and competency assessments of laboratory staff.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting instrumentation, workflow issues, and specimen processing challenges.
  • Monitor laboratory quality indicators and assist in implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain departmental documentation, quality records, and proficiency testing records.
  • Support preparation for laboratory inspections and accreditation surveys.
  • Verify completion of daily quality control activities and required documentation.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership on staffing, workflow optimization, and operational goals.
  • Perform histology bench work as needed, including routine and complex procedures, to support departmental productivity.

Qualifications

Required

  • HT or HTL (ASCP) certification, or equivalent qualifications where permitted by applicable regulations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in histology laboratory operations.
  • Previous supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience within a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Strong understanding of histology techniques, quality systems, and laboratory regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field.
  • Experience in a high-volume anatomic pathology or reference laboratory environment.
  • Prior experience preparing for and participating in CAP and CLIA inspections.
