VIZIA Diagnostics is a stand-alone, surgical pathology laboratory serving clients nationwide. Our team is focused on delivering best-in-class service excellence in diagnostic patient care. 

We are a subspecialty model dedicated to the practice of gastrointestinal pathology with GI subspecialty-trained and experienced pathologists and histotechnicians focused exclusively on GI specimens to ensure the highest level of quality. VIZIA is a growing company with potential advancement into other surgical pathology specialties, including a more robust genitourinary practice.

In 2023, VIZIA was formed through an acquisition from Boston Scientific Corporation. With more than 30 years of operational expertise and advancements in diagnostic services, we are proud of what we have accomplished, but we are even more excited about what we will achieve together.

Position Summary: The Histology Supervisor is primarily responsible for the histology laboratory or discipline that he or she is assigned. Their technical expertise will serve as a resource to the histotechnologists/histotechnicians and assistants within the department as well as the pathologists, physicians, nurses and patients who are our customers.  

The Histology Supervisor is responsible for supervision of staff within the section, equipment functionality and assay performance. They are also responsible for maintaining accreditation readiness and section compliance with all regulatory requirements. The individual will also be responsible for the teaching and training of histotechnologists and lab assistants in the execution of these procedures. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Be proficient in performing basic laboratory duties to assist in workflow when needed. 
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of instruments and document findings. 
  • Maintain a clean working environment. 
  • Monitor documentation accuracy and quality and ensure equipment quality control and preventive maintenance are undertaken on a routine basis. 
  • Perform complex troubleshooting investigations, document findings and escalate when needed. 
  • Oversee proper chemical hygiene practices to ensure safety and compliance, and also chemical hazardous waste disposal in accordance with regulatory guidelines. 
  • Supervise employee attendance, PTO and timecard approval and where necessary, undertake  
  • Assist in duties as deemed necessary by the Histology Supervisor, Pathology Manager, or Medical Director. 
  • Comply with quality control policies and SOPs to ensure all aspects of laboratory operation are performed in accordance with accepted standards and applicable laws for clinical laboratories. 
  • VIZIA  Diagnostics Pathology Laboratory attests to the following: For HIPAA compliance purposes, this position has been reviewed by management and meets the 'need to know' PHI access criteria of the HIPAA Security Rule. Additionally, per the HIPAA Privacy Rule, the minimum necessary PHI data elements have been identified by management and the minimum necessary PHI access has been granted to the employee/contractor for them to satisfactorily execute the role and responsibilities of this position. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associate or bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university and 5+ plus years of experience, and completion of an accredited Histology Program or an equivalent combination of education and 5 years' experience required 
  • HT(ASCP) certification is required 
  • HTL (ASCP) certification, preferred 
  • Voice Dictation a plus 
  • Must have good computer skills; LIS required, Outlook, Word, Excel are basic requirements. 

Summary:

The Histology Lab Supervisor is a vital member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing evening laboratory operations ensuring timely turnaround time of specimens to the highest level of quality. Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees and developing personal growth opportunities. Supervisor leads the team while implementing plans developed by management and providing feedback to management that may help make processes more efficient.
