Job description

Skillforce has teamed up with an industry leading general contractor in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions to find a Heavy Civil Superintendent.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in highway, bridge, and deep foundation work, including drilled shafts, micropiles, H-piles, sheeting, and tiebacks, often within marine or industrial environments. This role requires strong leadership, planning, problem-solving skills, and a steadfast commitment to safety.

Heavy Civil Superintendent Compensation & Benefits

Heavy Civil Superintendent Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, assign, and motivate field crews while maintaining the highest safety standards

  • Oversee all foundation-related construction activities on assigned project sites

  • Ensure crews and forepersons have the tools, materials, and information needed for safe, productive work

  • Manage subcontractors, manpower, schedules, budgets, and productivity

  • Interpret project specifications, drawings, surveys, and job cost reports

  • Implement QA/QC processes to ensure work meets design and quality standards

  • Proactively identify and respond to site conditions, changes, and unforeseen challenges

  • Manage documentation, submittals, material tracking, and weekly safety reporting

  • Support construction planning, including work plans, pick plans, and design coordination

  • Inspect job sites to ensure compliance with safety and design requirements

  • Track, manage, and assist with claims related to foundation scope

Heavy Civil Superintendent Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

  • 9+ years of heavy civil construction experience with a strong focus on foundations

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, changing project environment

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, industry best practices, equipment, and QA/QC

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Willingness to work on local projects within 1–2 hours of home base
