Job description


Position Title: Primary Heat Transfer (PHT) Component Engineer
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Primary Heat Transfer (PHT) Component Engineer opportunity.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of first-of-a-kind large nuclear fluid pumps or shell-and-tube heat exchanger through design and manufacture.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities, ensuring project teams meet scope, technical performance, and schedule expectations.
  • Provide oversight to partners and subcontractors developing mechanical component designs for the reactor.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the Contract Administrator and Supplier Project Engineer to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces and handoffs between Company, partners, and interfacing project teams to enable cohesive design and fabrication strategies.
  • Identify, communicate, and help resolve emerging technical issues and risks, ensuring Engineering and Project Management are consistently informed.
  • Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant components such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc.
  • Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, as well as their integration with an overall plant design delivery schedule.
  • Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, and system interface drawings.
  • Establish and maintain component requirements and specification documents, such as Engineering Design Specifications for major plant equipment.
  • Propose, initiate, and oversee testing programs for plant component qualification, as needed.
  • Generate design package for systems, sub-systems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications.
  • Work at Company is dynamic and evolutionary. As such, new responsibilities often arise, and you should be capable of and excited about learning and applying specialized skills

Job Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 10+ years direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
  • Experience with component design and manufacture of rotating machinery or shell and tube heat exchangers
  • Supplier coordination and project management experience required
  • Experience with full hardware lifecycle, from cradle to grave
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and the ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team's effort with minimal direction.
  • Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
  • Ability to work on simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
  • Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications.
  • Travel Required: 0-5%
