Job description

About SpotOn

We’re not just building restaurant tech, we’re giving independent restaurants the tools to compete and win. From our award-winning point-of-sale to AI-powered profit tools, everything we do helps operators boost profit, work smarter, and keep their best people. And every solution is backed by real humans who actually give a sh*t about helping restaurants succeed.

  • Named the #1 Restaurant POS by G2 (Fall 2025), based on ratings from real users

  • Rated the top-rated point-of-sale (POS) for restaurants, bars, retail, and small businesses by Capterra users

  • Awarded Great Places to Work and Built In’s Best Workplaces for multiple years running

We move fast, care hard, and fight for independent restaurant operators to do what they love, and love doing it. If you’re looking to make an impact with heart and hustle, SpotOn is the place for you.

We are looking for a strategic, highly collaborative, and deeply analytical Senior Product Data Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will act as the go-to partner for a designated pod or product area, owning complex behavioral analyses end-to-end to drive data-informed decision-making. You will partner closely with product managers, engineers, and designers to shape product strategy, uncover how restaurants interact with our integrated software and point-of-sale (POS) hardware ecosystems, and translate your findings into clear, actionable recommendations.

As a Senior Analyst, you will strike a balance between high-impact product partnership and technical rigor. You will ensure our product data is cleanly modeled in dbt, accurately interpreted today, and well-positioned to leverage modern analytical tools tomorrow.

You’ll thrive in this role if you…
  • Enjoy fast-paced environments, embrace ambiguity, and can independently break down complex requests into structured, manageable tasks.

  • Value high-impact partnership and naturally coordinate work across cross-functional stakeholders while helping newer teammates collaborate more effectively.

  • Are fascinated by the operational mechanics of the hospitality industry—understanding how a seamless data flow impacts a kitchen line, a server’s workflow, and a restaurant's bottom line.

  • Are passionate about data integrity, operational rigor, and building reproducible, well-documented data models.

  • Default to operating with a bias toward sharing, transparency, and clear, audience-appropriate storytelling.

Your Mission:
  • Drive Strategic Product Insights: Move beyond basic reporting to conduct deep-dive cohort, funnel, and segmentation analyses that diagnose merchant churn, optimize activation paths, and map feature adoption profiles. Translate complex behavioral patterns into actionable recommendations that directly influence product prioritization and roadmap direction.

  • Scale Analytics Through Governance: Establish clear intake workflows, project boundaries, and self-serve frameworks to scale analytics capabilities across your product pod. Enable cross-functional stakeholders to answer baseline data questions independently via BI tools, freeing up your time to focus on high-leverage strategic initiatives.

  • Own Product Data Transformation (dbt): Take ownership of your pod's data layer by partnering with data engineering to design and maintain clean, performant data models in dbt. Transform chaotic, raw event-tracking data—such as hardware telemetry, digital menu clicks, and ticket processing strings—into structured, reusable tables (like formalized merchant health and feature adoption marts).

  • Define Metrics & Champion Tracking Quality: Partner with product managers to define definitive success criteria and tracking requirements before new features launch. Tightly collaborate with engineering to ensure instrumentation is accurate, audit pipelines for data gaps, and aggressively mitigate data debt.

  • Define the Standards & Elevate the Team: Actively help define our team's core metric frameworks and tracking standards. Mentor junior-level analysts, lead documentation or training efforts, and set a high bar for analytical rigor and execution.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • SQL & dbt Mastery: Strong SQL skills and proven experience using dbt to transform raw data into production-grade analytics tables inside a cloud data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake).

  • Modern Tooling Familiarity: Practical experience leveraging a modern data stack, specifically combining dbt with behavioral event tools (e.g., Heap) or flexible business intelligence platforms (e.g., Metabase).

  • AI Fluency: Active use of modern AI assistants to accelerate your own workflow (code generation, debugging, automated documentation) paired with a practical understanding of how data structures must be formatted to feed AI-driven application layers.

  • Business Acumen & Storytelling: Strong grasp of how product metrics drive core business outcomes (retention, conversion, revenue). Ability to translate complex data into clear, contextual narratives that influence product strategy.

  • Execution Bias & Influence: A proactive partner who thrives in ambiguity, confidently challenges assumptions with data, and works cleanly across product and engineering boundaries to solve problems.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience in point-of-sales (POS), or the Food and Entertainment industry.

  • Experience with Python, Jinja, or reverse ETL workflows.

  • Experience developing and managing centralized semantic/metric layers or data catalogs optimized for LLM text-to-SQL utilities.

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in product analytics, data analytics, or a related data field.

Education

  • Min: Bachelors in a quantitative field of study

Hybrid-3 days a week in office

Compensation:

  • Our base pay range starts at $119,000 -$142,000 for this role

  • Please note the salary range listed is just one component of a competitive compensation package which includes a company stock plan

  • Offers will be reflective of the candidate’s location and experience.

Benefits:

At SpotOn, we put people above everything else. We’re known for our innovative software and technology solutions, but we stand out because of the hard-working humans behind the tech.
