They collaborate with IT teams, healthcare providers, and vendors to integrate electronic health records (EHRs) and other digital systems. The goal is to enhance patient care, streamline operations, and comply with regulatory requirements.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in healthcare interoperability roles?

Professionals in Healthcare Interoperability often encounter challenges such as integrating diverse electronic health record (EHR) systems, navigating varying data standards, and ensuring that sensitive patient information remains secure and compliant with regulations. Collaboration across IT, clinical, and administrative departments requires effective communication and the ability to translate complex technical issues into practical solutions for stakeholders. Rapidly evolving standards and regulatory requirements also require ongoing education and adaptability. Overcoming these challenges is critical to facilitating accurate, efficient data exchange and ultimately supporting better patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the healthcare interoperability position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Healthcare Interoperability, you need a solid understanding of healthcare data standards (such as HL7, FHIR, and CDA), health information technology, and compliance regulations like HIPAA, often supported by degrees in health informatics or computer science. Experience with interoperability platforms, EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner), interface engines, and relevant certifications (like CPHIMS or HL7) is highly valuable. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving ability, and excellent communication help professionals collaborate effectively across clinical, technical, and administrative teams. These competencies ensure seamless data exchange, regulatory compliance, and improved patient care quality across diverse healthcare settings.

What is the role of healthcare interoperability in healthcare?

Healthcare interoperability is a key aspect of healthcare jobs, involving the ability of different health information systems to exchange, interpret, and use patient data effectively. It enables seamless data sharing among providers, improves care coordination, and supports accurate decision-making, often requiring knowledge of standards like HL7 and FHIR. Job description

About Sycle

Sycle is a market-leading global SaaS company with the mission of facilitating the delivery of better hearing to the world. Founded in 2001, we have grown to be the leading practice management solution for audiology (hearing care) providers, with more than 65% market share. The Sycle practice management solution frees up valuable time so our customers can grow their businesses through delivering high quality patient care and exceptional services that delight their customers. Small hearing care practices and some of the largest retailers utilize our software in 13 countries worldwide.

The Sycle team is 120 strong. We are headquartered in Lone Tree, Colorado with a large remote workforce across the US and Canada. We are always on the lookout for exceptional talent to help us build and deliver market-leading tools that make a difference for our customers.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Product Manager โ€“ Patient Intake to reinvent how patients check in, register, and onboard into audiology practices. First impressions matter: front-office bottlenecks, manual paper forms, and slow registration slow down care and increase clinic overhead. This role can be based in Denver or on the US West Coast.

In this role, you will own the end-to-end digital intake lifecycleโ€”exploring modern solutions like tablet-based registration, digital pre-arrival forms, self-service kiosks, and voice/speech recognition tools. You will combine deep empathy for front-office clinic staff with a passion for Agentic AIโ€”using modern AI tools to rapidly prototype frictionless user journeys, draft detailed PRDs, and accelerate technical delivery.

Tech Stack & Tools
  • AI Tooling & Productivity: Claude 4.6+, GPT 5.4+, Windsurf, Cursor, and modern AI prototyping/PRD orchestration tools.
  • Hardware & Interface Protocols: Digital forms, tablet/kiosk integrations, Speech-to-Text (STT) APIs, and OCR document scanning.
  • Core Systems: EHR/EMR registration modules, Practice Management (PM) scheduling, and digital consent/signature workflows.
Key Pillars of Responsibility
  • Intake Vision & Roadmap: Own the strategy for transforming manual front-office workflows into frictionless digital intake experiences (pre-visit online intake, in-clinic tablet check-in, ambient/speech recognition, insurance card capture).
  • Front-Office Workflow Optimization: Conduct hands-on clinic observations and user research with front-desk staff and patients to remove friction, eliminate redundant paper forms, and increase check-in velocity.
  • Agentic Execution: Utilize AI multi-agent tools to auto-generate BDD/Gherkin acceptance criteria, mock up user interface wireframes, and test form logic at accelerated speeds.
  • Interoperability & Data Capture: Ensure intake data smoothly maps into core EMR patient records, demographic tables, and scheduling systems without requiring double-entry by clinic staff.
  • Compliance & Accessibility: Ensure all digital intake solutions comply with HIPAA regulations, electronic signature laws (e.g., eSIGN), and accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA compliance for older demographics).
Skills & Requirements
  • Healthcare PM Mastery: 3โ€“5+ years of Product Management experience in healthcare SaaS, EMR/EHR platforms, patient access, or digital front door solutions.
  • Workflow Expertise: Deep understanding of healthcare front-office workflows, patient onboarding, insurance eligibility verification, and demographic data capture.
  • Agentic Proficiency: Demonstrable experience leveraging AI agents to accelerate research synthesis, build interactive prototypes, or automate requirement drafting.
  • User-Centric Design: Proven track record of designing hardware-agnostic (tablet, mobile, web) user interfaces that cater to diverse patient demographics, including seniors.
  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
Bonus Points
  • Experience with voice AI, natural language processing (NLP), or OCR data extraction in a clinical setting.
  • Experience with hardware/kiosk integrations or patient engagement platforms (e.g., Phreesia, Clearwave).
What Success Looks Like
  • Frictionless Onboarding: Significantly reducing check-in times and eliminating paper intake across partner clinics.
  • High Data Accuracy: Achieving high first-pass demographic and insurance data accuracy, reducing front-office billing errors.
  • Velocity & Innovation: Rapidly testing and deploying novel intake technologies (speech recognition, digital forms) using AI-accelerated product discovery tools.
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision: Sycle pays employee-only premiums at 100% for base plans.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): Pre-tax options for Health ($3,400/yr) and Dependent Care ($7,500/yr).
  • Life & Disability: Voluntary Life/AD & D; Short-Term (60% up to $2,000/week) and Long-Term (60% up to $7,500/month) Disability.
  • 401(k) with Matching: 100% match on the first 3% of salary deferrals, plus 50% match on the next 2%โ€”with no vesting schedule.
  • Time Off: Paid holidays (~14 days), 12 vacation days, 4 personal days, and 9 sick days.
  • Perks: $50/month internet stipend and tuition reimbursement.
