Job description

The Director of Project Management is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving Modeaโ€™s project management practice to new heights. As a key member of the leadership team, you will oversee the entire project management function, including team performance, portfolio delivery, and strategic direction. You will leverage data-driven insights and extensive experience to tackle complex challenges, advise team members, and drive successful outcomes for both clients and company strategic initiatives.

Here's a list of duties and responsibilities you'd take on as a Modea Director of Project Management:

  • Practice Leadership: Define and execute the strategy and goals for the project management practice, serving as the primary architect for evolving tools and workflows.
  • Strategic Translation: Act as the "bridge" between the Leadership Team (LT) and the project management team, translating annual One Page Strategic Plan (OPSP) goals into clear, measurable objectives.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Oversee the health and delivery of Modeaโ€™s Delivery Portfolio, consisting of strategic, high-priority, complex digital product development engagements.
  • Executive Account Management: Develop and maintain executive-level client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and identifying growth opportunities.
  • Team Management & Development: Directly manage, coach, and mentor a high-performing team of project managers, including hiring, regular 1:1s, performance evaluations, and accountability for their commitments.
  • Financial & Operational Management: Own the department budget and P&L, ensuring optimal resource allocation and target team billable utilization rate.
  • Personal Billable Target: Maintain a 50% billable utilization rate through senior-level account management and strategic oversight on key engagements.
  • Standards & Norms Enforcement: Evolve and enforce the "Modea PM Standard" and "Delivery Norms," ensuring high planning rigor and risk management across all projects.
  • Consultative Culture: Coach the team to move away from "task-taking" toward being true consultants who drive conversations and bring strategic insights to clients.
  • Problem Resolution: Enforce the "Think Outside the Box" rule, requiring project managers to present pressure-tested solutions/proposals before escalating issues to leadership.
  • Collaborative Partnership: Work closely with other practice leads to ensure delivery standards are unified across the broader delivery operations machine.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are reasonably within the scope of this position.

Some critical competencies we'd like you to have are:

  • Strategic Leadership: Ability to set a compelling vision, inspire teams, and drive transformational results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Executive Presence: Commands respect and inspires confidence at all levels, from internal teams to C-suite clients, while articulating complex ideas persuasively.
  • Autonomy: A self-starter who thrives on independence and takes full ownership of the project management function.
  • Change Leadership: Skilled at navigating organizational change and aligning teams around new initiatives and methodologies.
  • Agile & Digital Mastery: Deep working knowledge of Agile at scale (Scrum) and extensive experience in digital product development.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong capability in budget management, financial forecasting, and optimizing departmental performance.

Here's a list of minimum requirements that are necessary for the role:

  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree.
  • Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years in project/program/portfolio management.

    • 5+ years in a consulting environment.
  • Technical Skills:ย
    • Proven experience leading and growing a consulting practice or department.
    • Strong Scrum experience in digital product development and modern DevSecOps delivery.
    • Proficiency in managing multi-million dollar portfolios with evolving scope.
  • Relationship Management: Proven track record of building trusted C-suite partnerships and expanding accounts through exceptional delivery.

Candidates with the following will be considered preferred:

  • Masterโ€™s degree (MBA), Project Management, or a relevant technical field.
  • Additional certifications: Prosci Change Management, ITIL Foundations, or Scrum certifications.
  • Industry knowledge: Healthcare industry, digital marketing, and HIPAA compliance/data privacy regulations.
