About the Role:

To construct, maintain, and dismantle structures, furniture, woodwork and other related items such as doors, folding walls, windows, ceilings, tile, sheetrock, and hardware throughout the facility to ensure an attractive and well-maintained facility.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains and repairs doors, furniture, hardware, windows, hang artwork, headboards, etc.
  • Ability to climb on ladders, stoop, push or pull heavy furniture, and grasp hand tools.
  • Ability to visually inspect, diagnose problems, take measurements and make necessary adjustments to items such as door hardware to ensure safe, smooth operation of guestrooms, public space and back of the house facilities. This will involve the extension of arms to replace ceiling tiles, lifting and positioning of sheetrock, replacing chair rails and corner moldings, kneeling to repair wood floors and Formica work.
  • Performs shop work to repair or build furniture.
  • Identifies types and grades of wood in addition to the ability to measure and be familiar with hardware materials available to the carpentry trade.
  • Uses shop equipment such as: table saw, drill press, band saw, electric planner, and router are required.
  • Ability to build cabinets, shelving units, and fabricate furniture parts for repairs with the materials and tools available.

Supportive Functions:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, at the discretion of the manager based on the particular requirements of the hotel.

 

  • Receives lumber deliveries and cleans workshop.
  • Constructs various signs and props as well as hangs items such as signs and banners.
  • Due to the nature of the business, the carpenter may be required to do other duties and special projects, as assigned by the supervisor, such as assisting other trades or erecting partitions and walls.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Good product knowledge of lumber (grade, types, etc.), hardware, and other related supplies.
  • Knowledge of local building codes.
  • Skills in use of power and hand tools, such as planner, table saw, drill press, chisels, rasps, etc.
  • Basic English language communication skills in order to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, communicate with co-workers, and fully comprehend job assignments.
  • Basic trade mathematical skills in order to calculate quantities of materials.
  • Ability to grasp, lift or carry items weighing up to 80 lbs.  occasionally above head.
  • Ability to reach above head and support items such as wood, ceiling tiles, etc.
  • Ability to push and pull objects or materials weighing up to 500 lbs. with wheeled assistance.
  • Ability to climb ladders, occasionally working at heights above 30 feet.
  • Ability to perform tasks consistently while bending, stooping, kneeling, or standing while supporting additional weight of up to 80 lbs.

Education:

Any combination of education, training or experience of at least five years that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Experience:

Previous experience in carpentry, woodworking, cabinet making, and blueprint reading.

Licenses and Certificates:

No special licenses required.
