Job description

SCENIC CARPENTER

Special Event Fabrication company seeks over hire carpenters to work as needed on various projects. Secaucus, NJ based shop fully equipped. Working under the supervision of the Head of Carpentry Candidates for the Scenic Carpenter position should possess solid carpentry skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to interpret artistic and technical drawings. Problem-solving skills and adaptability are crucial, as the work often requires on-the-spot adjustments and creative solutions. Experience with power tools and construction techniques specific to scenic production is highly valued. Being well versed in using a wide range of equipment, carpentry power tools, skills and materials to construct and finish a variety of large- and small-scale scenic items to the highest of standards to tight timescales.

ESSENTIAL – REQUIRED SKILLS

· Physically capable of undertaking the requirements of the position including lifting, bending, stretching and reaching for long periods of time

· Able to work at height on ladders and access platforms

· Ability to read and understand CAD Drawings

· Ability to read and understand Build Drawings

· Ability to work from scale drawings, models, plans, sketches, verbal ideas and references

· Ability to create cut lists, material needs, etc. to complete a project

· Excellent practical woodwork and resistant material skills

· Adhere to safety standards and proper handling of equipment and gear

· Ability to organize/prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously on the job

· Effective time management skills and the ability to work as part of a team in a busy workshop environment

GENERAL SHOP DUTIES

· SUPPORT WORK-Keeping shop clean. If not currently assigned a task, cleaning and putting tools away

· Accept all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor/manager

-Hourly Position with possibility of overtime when necessary

Our facility is fully equipped for woodworking and cabinetry, metal working, upholstering, and scenic painting/faux finish paint treatments. Our facility also houses an extensive rental stock for your event needs.
