Job Summary and Qualifications

The PBX Operator is responsible for ensuring efficient communication within, to and from the hospital in an attentive, courteous and efficient manner and according to standard operating procedure. Your commitment to service, safety and professionalism will contribute to achieving the best experience for our patients.  


What you will do in this role:  


  • You will cheerfully greet and assist external and internal callers on multiple incoming telephone lines.  
  • You will provide information/phone numbers to callers as requested or make sufficient inquiries necessary to refer the caller to the appropriate hospital personnel or department.  
  • You will execute overhead paging for authorized reasons when requested to do so by the appropriate staff.  
  • You will understand hospital emergency codes and alarms and the effect they have on patient care and safety, and coordinate emergency code responses assuring the proper personnel are notified.  
  • You will monitor all alarms located in PBX and notify appropriate personnel as required.  
  • You will assist with updating the facility, phone directories and on-call lists.  

 What qualifications you will need:  


  • High school graduate or equivalent.  
  • At least one year of experience operating a switchboard or as a receptionist with multiple line phone responsibility.  
  • Multiple line phone or switchboard skills.  
  • Basic computer skills.  
  • Experience with Word & Excel preferred.  
  • Proven customer service skills in working with public and emergency situations.
