Job description

Job Summary and Qualifications

A PBX operator handles a commercial telephone switching system. The job entails basic customer service. The operator must handle and direct incoming calls, route these incoming calls to the correct individual or department within the business, or send to a message system, such as voicemail, if required. PBX operators also handle basic questions about the hospital, including hours of operation and directions. They also handle all Codes and must remain calm under pressure. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Answer incoming calls and assists callers by transferring calls to appropriate areas. 
  • Pages physicians and hospital personnel on the public address system and pagers 
  • Initiates emergency procedures and monitors multiple alarms and the HEAR radio system 
  • Maintains accurate records of emergency events, alarms received and on-call sheets 
  • Provides backup for patient information 
  • Performs all assignments while providing good customer service to all callers

    What qualifications you will need:

    • High School Graduate / GED
    • At last one year experience operating a switchboard or as a receptionist with multiple line phone responsibility preferred.

    • Good typing skills. Multiple line phone or switchboard skills preferred. 

    • Basic computer skills. 

    • Experience with Word & Excel would be helpful 

    • Proven customer service skills in working with public and in emergency situations preferred.
