What does a GTX Manufacturing Process Engineer do?

A GTX Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining the manufacturing processes involved in producing GTX (often referring to graphics processing units or advanced technologies) products. They work to improve efficiency, ensure product quality, and troubleshoot production issues. This role involves collaborating with design, quality, and production teams to implement new processes and technologies, as well as analyzing production data to identify areas for improvement. Ultimately, their goal is to streamline operations and maintain high manufacturing standards for GTX products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GTX Manufacturing Process Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GTX Manufacturing Process Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering principles, process optimization, and manufacturing systems, typically supported by a degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, Six Sigma methodologies, and manufacturing execution systems (MES) is often required, along with relevant certifications like Lean Manufacturing. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure the efficient development and improvement of manufacturing processes, leading to higher product quality and operational efficiency.

What are some typical challenges a GTX Manufacturing Process Engineer faces when optimizing production lines?

Job description

Manufacturing Process Engineer
Location: Duluth, GA
Department: Operations
Reports to: VP of Operations
Direct Reports: None
Type: Full-Time
Status: Exempt
Schedule: M-F (on-site manufacturing facility)
Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 + Bonus Eligible
The Role
We're seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to play a critical role in defining, documenting, controlling, and continuously improving manufacturing processes from product launch through sustaining operations. This role partners closely with Operations, Quality, and Engineering to build clear, scalable, and repeatable processes that reduce variation, improve first-pass yield, enhance production flow, and shorten training time.
This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on shop floor performance by creating effective standard work and digital work instructions that enable consistent execution, support operational excellence, and strengthen IPA's ability to deliver high-quality products efficiently and reliably.
What You'll Do
  • Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing process flows, routings, and method-of-manufacture documentation for assigned products and processes.
  • Create, sustain, and continuously improve standard work, work instructions, visual aids, and training materials with strong revision control to support consistent execution on the shop floor.
  • Translate engineering drawings, CAD models, and BOM intent into clear, executable manufacturing steps with defined acceptance criteria and in-process quality checks.
  • Build and maintain digital work instructions using CAD models and BOM structures (e.g., uploading models, creating assemblies, annotating critical features) to improve training effectiveness and compliance.
  • Analyze production data (e.g., first-pass yield, scrap/rework, cycle time, downtime, labor variance) to identify conversion loss, defects, and delays, and prioritize improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and support Kaizen events and structured problem-solving initiatives, implementing countermeasures such as standardization, error-proofing, and flow improvements, and verifying sustained effectiveness.
  • Support NCR, CAPA, and MRB activities through containment actions, root cause analysis (A3, DMAIC, 8D), and preventive measures.
  • Support new product introductions and engineering changes through readiness planning, pilot builds, and smooth transitions to production.
  • Partner with Engineering to specify and implement fixtures, gauges, and equipment or process changes that improve quality, safety, and efficiency.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a similar role supporting production operations.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and sustaining standard work and work instructions actively used by operators.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting manufacturing processes and leading structured problem-solving efforts in a production environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications; familiarity with GD&T preferred.
  • Experience with digital work instruction platforms (e.g., BuildOS or similar) and manufacturing systems such as ERP, MES, or QMS preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles, including value stream mapping, 5S, standard work, and visual management.
  • Experience with PFMEA, control plans, SPC, or process capability concepts preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive change.

You'll Excel If You:
  • Think systematically about manufacturing processes and enjoy turning complexity into clear, executable standard work.
  • Use data and metrics to identify problems, prioritize improvements, and validate results.
  • Are comfortable spending time on the shop floor and partnering closely with operators, engineers, and leaders.
  • Enjoy leading continuous improvement efforts and seeing ideas turn into sustained results.
  • Balance attention to detail with a big-picture view of flow, quality, and operational performance.
  • Adapt quickly, take ownership, and bring a practical, hands-on approach to solving production challenges.

What We Offer:
  • The opportunity to build and own IPA's manufacturing processes in a high-impact, hands-on role.
  • Direct partnership with cross-functional teams to align engineering solutions with production goals and business growth.
  • Autonomy to design scalable manufacturing processes and systems that drive efficiency and quality aligned with IPA's operational excellence standards.
  • Professional development and career growth within a growing engineering team committed to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.
  • 4 days in office (M-Thu), 1 day (Friday) remote.
  • A mission-driven culture where your work directly improves product quality and manufacturing efficiency, supporting IPA's purpose: improving infection prevention and operational efficiency in healthcare.

Why Join IPA?:
At IPA, you're not just joining a company, you're joining a mission-driven, inclusive culture dedicated to improving infection prevention and operational efficiency in healthcare.
