The Role
We are looking for a Manager, Prefabrication Operations to lead our prefabrication as we continue to deepen our investment in this line of our business. This position reports directly to the Vice President. Our shop has had real success on the back of a strong team, a deep service mix, and significant capital investment. We are looking for someone with fabrication leadership experience to build on that success and help take the operation to another level. The right candidate brings genuine process expertise, the operating discipline of a manufacturing leader, and the people skills to partner with an experienced team rather than overhaul it.
Compensation/Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, negotiable, based on experience
  • Benefits
  • Long term disability, AD&D, life insurance, dependent life insurance
  • Paid vacation
  • Cell phone allowance or company provided cell phone
  • Company provided IT assets
  • Company paid professional membership fees and/or dues as applicable to the role
  • Primarily Monday to Friday with flexibility to engage across day and night shift operations as required
  • Some travel (up to 20%) may be required in support of satellite operations.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Own direct P&L responsibility for the fabrication business unit, including monthly financial reporting, labour utilization, materials variance, and gross margin against committed work
  • Partner with the estimating team to provide operational guidance on shop estimates and serve as the final accountable signoff at the estimating gate before bids are released
  • Lead production planning, sequencing, and capacity loading across day and night shifts to deliver on committed dates
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal project teams, as well as clients, suppliers, and vendors; engage clients as needed on fabrication capacity and capability
  • Champion HSE performance on the shop floor in partnership with the HSE function; safety is a tracked KPI and a non-negotiable cultural commitment
  • Steward a balanced KPI framework covering throughput, quality, safety, schedule adherence, and cost; report monthly and use the data to inform decisions and trajectory
  • Work alongside the Corporate QC Manager to maintain ABSA pressure-welding QC program compliance, CSA W47.1 Division 3 requirements, and a strong first-pass NDE acceptance record
  • Lead an experienced team across day and night shifts with 6-8 direct reports
  • Build out the operating system – planning cadence, workflow design, process discipline, and continuous improvement habits – that supports a manufacturing-grade fabrication operation
  • Maintain certification and operational readiness of the primary facility and support the operational planning for any future expansion of the fabrication footprint
  • Provide operational input into materials planning and inventory strategy
  • Mentor and develop the leadership team and trades workforce; build the supervisory bench strength that comes with operating at scale
  • Oversee coating operations including sandblasting and shop-applied coatings

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years in pipe and structural fabrication, with at least 5 years in an operations leadership role of comparable scope and complexity
  • Demonstrated track record building production discipline and process maturity in a fabrication or manufacturing operation – with the specifics of how you contributed
  • A relevant certified credential, either as a Journeyperson, CET, P.Eng or other industry equivalency
  • Direct P&L experience, including monthly financial reporting and variance analysis
  • A clear view on process improvement methodology and how you’d apply it in our environment
  • Strong people leadership: you’ve led trades teams, partnered with experienced managers and supervisors, and developed teams
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, piping isometrics, PFDs, and P&IDs
  • Estimating experience or strong estimating fluency – enough to challenge production rates and own the final operational signoff on shop estimates
  • Operator mindset: comfortable making decisions on the floor and accountable for the results
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with various stakeholders
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Experience working within a Google based company using Google calendar, drive, sheets, docs, etc. considered an asset. We are a Google based company.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Acornpipe, SpoolFab, and similar tools is considered an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret client supplied RFQ specifications
  • Working knowledge of the following quality codes;
    • ASME B31.3 Process Piping
    • ASME B31.1 Power Piping and Boiler External Piping
    • ABSA
    • CSA W47.1 Division 3 (structural steel fabrication)
    • CSA Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems
    • Familiarity with NDE methods and applicable acceptance criteria
  • Mathematical and analytical skills required to build, understand and interpret reports in excel or google sheets
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated
