Huhtamaki is the global leading manufacturer of consumer goods packaging as well as tableware, cups, folding cartons, containers, trays and service ware for the foodservice industry and retail markets. Our Fulton plant is presently seeking a Department Manager to manage our Printing, and Cup forming departments.
Job Summary
The Department Manager oversees operational areas, utilizing equipment, facilities, and personnel to achieve safety, quality, productivity, and waste reduction goals. They handle training, career development, discipline, and performance appraisals, while also managing operational budgets.
Essential Functions
  • Promote safety awareness, conduct safety audits, and improve housekeeping practices. Provide guidance on safety improvements and ergonomic considerations.
  • Conduct routine safety audits and investigate accidents when necessary.
  • Set and monitor production rate targets for the department.
  • Drive continuous improvement (World Class Operations) by focusing on corrective and preventive action, cost reduction initiatives, capital projects, and process enhancements.
  • Maintain Safe Quality Foods (SQF) standards for departmental areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor internal quality data and provide corrective action directions. Address corrective actions for customer complaints as needed.
  • Enhance product quality through methods like Statistical Process Control (SPC), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and improved quality systems.
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, including printing, cup forming, planning, inventory control, material supply, engineering, and maintenance.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate staffing levels for operational areas.
  • Train and develop department personnel.
  • Create and manage departmental budgets, reviewing production numbers daily and conducting weekly/monthly department reviews.
  • Fulfill other tasks aligned with company initiatives under the Operations Manager's guidance.

Job Qualifications
Required
  • Have a strong safety and hazard awareness.
  • Familiarity with Union relations and working in a union environment.
  • Ability to talk in front of large groups of employees, managers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to multitask and oversee multiple projects, production schedules and company meetings.
  • Have strong mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of high-volume manufacturing.
  • Have strong computer and math skills with the ability to accurately enter data within the computer systems.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with all levels of the organization and with outside contacts.
  • Proven track record of success managing a multi-process or departmental production group.

Preferred
  • 4-year college degree in printing, manufacturing, business or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of managerial or supervisory experience within a manufacturing setting.
  • 1-3 years of Continuous Improvement experience.

Wage Rate: $90,000+ depending on experience
