Founded by Detroit philanthropists George and Ellen Booth in 1904, Cranbrook Educational Community is one of the world’s leading centers of education, science, and art. Comprised of a graduate Academy of Art, contemporary Art Museum, Center for Collections and Research, House and Gardens, Institute of Science, and more than 1,600 students attending our Pre-K through 12 independent college preparatory Schools, Cranbrook welcomes thousands of visitors and students to its campus each year. Cranbrook Athletics seeks an Assistant Rowing Coach who values the experience of being part of a rowing team and is passionate about working with young people. Our program is built on the belief that athletics should develop confidence, self-awareness, resilience, and balance while fostering kindness, character, leadership, and personal growth. Rowing experience is preferred, but a dedication to fitness, student development, and a willingness to learn are also highly valued.

Cranbrook has a proud athletic tradition that includes hundreds of conference, district, and regional championships. The Cranes have captured 102 State Championships across seven different sports and compete in outstanding athletic facilities.

The Assistant Rowing Coach will:

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices for novice and varsity rowers.
  • Provide instruction in rowing technique, race preparation, and athlete development.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, regattas, and team travel while ensuring a safe environment.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and student-centered team culture.
  • Serve as a positive role model through professionalism, sportsmanship, integrity, and respect.

The Successful Candidate Will:

  • Demonstrate a genuine commitment to working with and mentoring young people.
  • Foster a culture of growth, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.
  • Support the academic, social, and emotional development of student-athletes.

Requirements:

  • Rowing experience as an athlete and/or coach is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with coaches, students, families, and colleagues.
