Job Summary
The primary task is to organize, recruit and develop a successful crew program in concert with the academic mission of the university. The Susquehanna rowing team practices on the scenic Susquehanna River. It is less than 15 minutes north of campus at the junction of Routes 11 & 15 and provides 10 miles of rowable water upstream. This position is classified as exempt under FLSA regulations.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Recruit quality student-athletes for the rowing program
  • Develop and facilitate organized practices
  • Adhere to relevant university and US Rowing policies and procedures to ensure proper risk management, including record safety initiatives.
  • Develop a schedule that includes representative and competitive contests.
  • Coordinate the purchase of equipment and the inventory and storage of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate participation records.
  • Develop a schedule that includes representative and competitive contests.

  • Coordinate fundraising opportunities for the rowing program, if appropriate.
  • Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree and two years of rowing coaching experience, or a total of six years of rowing coaching experience is required. First Aid and CPR certification required, or ability to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment. College-level rowing coaching experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
The person in this position must be able to demonstrate emotional intelligence and adaptability to adverse situations and have a strong commitment to enhance student-athlete experiences through motivation and counseling support, show evidence of positive attitude and the ability to get along well with others. They must have excellent speaking and writing skills, as well as the ability to be a well-organized self-starter. They must be able to set priorities and advocate team concepts; work collaboratively with faculty and staff, and interact with students, and parents, and have occasional interactions with coaches from other colleges and with university administrative staff.

This position requires a valid driver's license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university's insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle. This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements.
Physical Demand
Must have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively coach water sports. Frequent walking, running, bending, stooping and lifting. Working conditions are both indoor and outdoor.
