Job description

STAFF ACCOUNTANT – JOB DESCRIPTION

Staff Accountant Responsibilities:

The Staff Accountant prepares and maintains financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Staff Accountant duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare Federal, State, and Local tax returns by collecting, analyzing, and formatting financial information
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local tax legal requirements
  • Communicate with Accounting Manager to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting
  • Research and resolve excise, sales, income, and any other tax notices received by various tax jurisdictions
  • Research, set-up, and file taxes for new tax jurisdictions, business activities and customers
  • Maintain proper tax recording set-up in accounting software
  • Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts
  • Understand the various tax accounting and reporting requirements for different business structures and be able to advise management on tax implications of strategic business decisions
  • Proved outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops or classes; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks
Experience/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Two (2) years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and experience with Federal and State tax laws and reporting requirements
  • Ability to research new tax requirements and determine compliance
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines and to quickly develop clear priorities
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with employees, suppliers, company contacts and governmental representatives
Preferred Skills:
  • An understanding of tax requirements across multiple states
  • CPA/MST highly desired
Hours:

The Staff Accountant is a full time position and works a minimum of 40 hours per week
