Job Description
As the People Operations Generalist at Butterfly, you will champion our values and ensure our workplace is supportive, efficient, and compliant. In this role, you will be the backbone of our rapidly growing, global People function - managing end-to-end employee lifecycles, global benefits, compliance, and Workday administration, while serving as the first-line support for our employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Global Benefits & Leave Administration
  • Open Enrollment: Manage annual Open Enrollment communication and system configuration.
  • Benefits Program Management: Administer U.S. and global benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, retirement, and wellness), and research/implement plans to support global expansion (e.g., Taiwan, Kenya, UAE, EU).
  • Leave & Claims: Manage FMLA, ADA, state-specific leaves (e.g., MA PFML, NY PFL), parental leave, COBRA, and international statutory programs.
  • Invoicing & Support: Audit and reconcile benefit invoices for financial accuracy, and resolve escalated employee inquiries with empathy and confidentiality.

Employee Lifecycle Operations
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Own the end-to-end lifecycle for U.S. and international employees, including background checks, I-9 verification, and coordination with internal stakeholders.
  • Immigration Support: Coordinate visa processes and compliance documentation in partnership with internal teams and external legal counsel.

Workday HRIS Administration
  • System Management: Serve as the hands-on admin for Workday Core HCM, Benefits, and Leave modules, including managing Business Processes, Security Groups, integrations, file feeds, and data reporting.
  • Data Integrity: Troubleshoot system issues, manage organizational structures, and generate reports to ensure flawless data integrity.

HR Compliance & Policy
  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage ACA reporting, CA Pay Data, Form 5500, non-discrimination testing, and 401(k) audits.
  • Policies & SOPs: Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure alignment with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Assist in special HR projects as needed

Qualifications
Baseline skills/experiences/attributes:
  • Experience: 5-7 years of progressive HR/People Operations experience, ideally in a fast-growing or global environment.
  • Compliance & Benefits: Deep knowledge of U.S. labor laws, benefits regulations (FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ACA, ERISA), and state-specific leave programs (e.g., NY, MA).
  • HRIS Admin: 2+ years of hands-on Workday administration experience (specifically managing Core HCM, Benefits, and/or Absence modules).
  • Data Savvy: Advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (vlookups, pivot tables, data audits) and a strong analytical mindset for reporting and system reconciliation.
  • Global Exposure: Experience supporting global benefits or international employee populations is highly preferred.
  • Immigration Coordination: Prior experience collaborating with immigration counsel for visa and work authorization processes is a strong plus.
  • Discretion & Trust: A proven track record of handling highly sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion and ethical judgment.
  • Project Delivery: Excellent organizational and project management skills-specifically, the ability to draft policy and see complex processes through to completion.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an empathetic approach to resolving complex employee inquiries.

Location
Butterfly offers a hybrid work model for most positions, with team members spending two or more days a week in the office. While flexibility is key, we value in-person connections that spark creativity and teamwork. This is a hybrid position and will be based out of our office in New York City, NY.

Compensation
Our estimated salary for this role is between $120,000 - $130,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Actual pay is determined by multiple factors such as skills, qualifications, experience and market demand.
