Job description

Amazon is hiring an experienced SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) manager for the Amazon News website (AboutAmazon.com). As a SEO/GEO manager you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing our search and AI visibility strategy.
You will develop and execute strategic SEO and GEO plans, grow organic search traffic, support content creation, and help shape how Amazon News content surfaces across an increasingly AI-driven discovery landscape. This role requires deep search engine optimization knowledge, strong technical SEO expertise, and the ability to work cross-functionally with editorial, communications, and technical teams across a global organization. This person must also be data-driven and be able to develop tactics to drive business goals, engagement, and reach. The ideal candidate is analytical, curious about AI, an effective storyteller, and thinks about content first - diving into data to identify content opportunities and translating insights into actionable editorial guidance.
This role is part of the Amazon News team, which sits within Amazon's Communications & Corporate Responsibility org. Amazon News serves as the first and most trusted source of news and information about Amazon for external audiences. We help customers understand what Amazon is doing globally - from fostering a great workplace and driving innovation to supporting small business and sustainability. We tell the larger story of who Amazon is through compelling content on AboutAmazon.com and our off-platform distribution channels such as our email newsletter.
Key job responsibilities
• Develop a comprehensive organic SEO and GEO strategy for the global Amazon News website, including a roadmap of initiatives to drive growth.
• Monitor and optimize how Amazon News content surfaces in AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, including tracking citations and visibility.
• Build and maintain SEO and GEO reporting process and cadence, with regular reports tailored for leadership, peer teams, and communications partners.
• Manage dedicated SEO tools (such as Google Search Console, SEMRush, Sistrix, Screaming Frog) and identify and onboard new tools as needed.
• Conduct regular technical SEO audits to identify and resolve issues related to site architecture, crawlability, indexation, page speed, and structured data, partnering with engineering teams to implement fixes.
• Partner with technical teams to ensure site infrastructure - including URL structure, internal linking, and schema markup - is optimized for both traditional and AI-driven search.
• Work closely with editorial teams to develop and implement initiatives that maximize organic engagement for both new and evergreen stories.
• Demonstrate good story judgment and proactively identify opportunities to win keywords for specific stories and topics.
• Partner with communications stakeholders to align SEO and GEO strategy with broader reputational, editorial, and business goals.
• Understand customer search and AI discovery behavior and provide guidance to teams to help them meet customers where they are.
• Develop and implement link and traffic building strategies.
• Stay current on industry trends, competitor techniques, and best practices across SEO, GEO, and AI-driven content discovery.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience
- Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables)
- 5+ years of search engine optimization experience, with a track record of increasing organic traffic
- 4+ years of experience in marketing, journalism, or related fields
- 3+ years of experience of building SEO reports and communicating results to stakeholders
- 3+ years of experience with SEO and data tools, including SEMRush, Google Search Console, Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics, and Content Management Systems
- Familiarity with how LLMs surface and cite content, and strategies to improve AI discoverability
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading SEO within a journalism or media organization, with a strong track record of using search insights to shape and optimize editorial content
- Experience with Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) tools (e.g. Profound, Scrunch, Writesonic) - including tracking and optimizing content visibility in AI-powered tools and LLMs
- 2+ years of experience of leading a content marketing program (preferably SEO at scale)
- Experience working at a global company managing international, multi-language projects
- Product management experience, comfort working with technical and non-technical teams
- Proven track record assuming ownership, moving quickly to implement ideas, and delivering results and in a fast-paced online environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent story judgment and interest in storytelling
- Innate curiosity and ability to take ownership of projects and work independently
