Job description

The Lead Content Manager is responsible for leading the development, execution, and optimization of marketing and editorial content across UVA Health's channels, including owned digital properties (websites, blogs, newsletters), nurture and digital campaigns, print, and paid marketing and brand campaigns. This role ensures that content development aligns with organizational marketing objectives including brand awareness, reputation, patient acquisition, and service line growth.
The Lead Content Manager is an experienced writer, strategic thinker and leader who oversees the development, governance, and optimization of content.
This position leads the editorial content team and collaborates closely with leads across the department to support content efforts for target audiences, primarily external facing.
  • In support of overall Marketing objectives and strategy, provide leadership and direction to the editorial content team, setting priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
  • Oversee the development of high-quality content across digital channels including websites, blogs, campaign landing pages, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent storytelling, brand/editorial voice, and messaging across all owned digital platforms, paid campaigns, and print materials.
  • Working in close partnership with the Head of Creative and Directors of Marketing, lead conceptual, campaign, and brand-driven content development, to develop high-impact messaging that supports advertising and sponsored content.
  • Work with marketing and performance teams to test and refine messaging.
  • Establish and maintain editorial standards, style guides, and best practices for content development.
  • Create and maintain editorial calendars that align content production with campaigns and service line priorities.
  • Partner with digital and performance marketing teams to ensure content is structured and optimized for usability, discoverability, and conversion.
  • Collaborate with SEO partner to use data and user insights to continuously refine content strategy and improve performance outcomes.
  • Lead content audits and optimization initiatives to improve existing content performance.
  • Collaborate with clinical experts and internal stakeholders to produce credible and accurate content.
  • Monitor performance metrics and optimize campaigns based on results.
  • Continuously test and optimize messaging, formats, and channels

Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism, or related field.
  • Experience working in regulated industries (healthcare, pharma, medical devices).
  • Experience in content marketing, preferably in academic healthcare, health tech, or life sciences.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance considerations (e.g., HIPAA-friendly messaging).
  • Experience collaborating with clinicians, healthcare professionals, or medical writers.
  • Familiarity with marketing analytics tools such as Google Analytics, HubSpot, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting paid marketing campaigns.
  • Experience with managing and developing a team of content strategists.
  • Experience managing website content and CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, or similar).
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and content optimization.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and campaign management.
  • Experience with and interest in utilizing AI.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: 6+ years of relevant professional experience; to include 2+ years of formal management experience required.
Licensure: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
The pay range for this role is $77,949.00 - $155,897.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
