We're looking for a proactive, observant, and detail-oriented Risk Management Investigator to maintain a proactive, integrated and dynamic loss prevention program that protects Goodwill Central Coast assets and helps reduce or eliminate loss through theft, dishonesty, or misuse.

The Opportunity

The Risk Management Investigator supports a designated region of Goodwill Central Coast by maintaining loss prevention controls, investigating reported or suspected losses, monitoring CCTV and other vulnerabilities, conducting cash and inventory checks, and working with internal teams and appropriate outside agencies when needed. The position requires sound judgment, strong communication, discretion, and the ability to remain composed during critical situations.

What You'll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in loss prevention, law enforcement, or equivalent.
  • Valid Class C California driver's license, a good driving record, and ability to drive for Company business.
  • Specialized knowledge of loss prevention systems, procedures and techniques.
  • Familiarity with computer operations, typical computer programs, general accounting/bookkeeping techniques, and electronic cash registers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; Spanish communication skills preferred.
  • Ability to maintain self-control, follow procedures, work cooperatively with others, and deal effectively with the public.

What You'll Do

  • Maintain the loss prevention program in the designated region and help ensure proper use of Goodwill Central Coast assets and adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Conduct investigations of reported and/or suspected company losses, including interviewing involved parties and witnesses and completing comprehensive investigation reports.
  • Use appropriate legal channels when necessary to assist with recovery of misappropriated assets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local law enforcement and district attorney's offices to assist with prosecution or recovery of assets when appropriate.
  • Conduct regular cash reconciliation checks at retail stores and inspections at donation sites, warehouses, and other Company-controlled locations.
  • Train on and maintain proficiency in the Point-of-Sale (POS) system to support monitoring of potential theft and other loss vulnerabilities.
  • Orient new hires in the designated region on risk management policies and procedures.
  • Monitor CCTV at all locations as a spot check for safety and loss prevention and review CCTV archives as requested to investigate staff or customer wrongdoing.
  • Maintain the CCTV system in the designated region in conjunction with service vendors and make recommendations regarding camera placement and system upgrades.
  • Adhere to defined procedures for the collection and disposal of firearms, fireworks, alcohol, and other dangerous, illegal, or otherwise high-risk donations.
  • Perform periodic spot checks on purchased-goods inventory at stores and the warehouse.
