What is a golf internship?

Golf internships are structured work experiences that allow students or aspiring professionals to gain practical knowledge and hands-on skills in the golf industry. These positions can include roles in golf course management, operations, event planning, marketing, or instruction. Interns typically work under the supervision of experienced staff and may assist with tournaments, daily course operations, or customer service. Golf internships are valuable for networking, building a résumé, and often serve as a stepping stone to a full-time career in the golf business.

What types of hands-on experience can I expect during a golf internship?

As a golf intern, you can expect to gain practical experience in various aspects of golf operations, such as assisting with tournament setup, managing tee sheets, providing customer service in the pro shop, and helping with course maintenance. You'll often rotate through different departments, allowing you to learn directly from golf professionals and groundskeepers. This exposure not only helps you build a broad skill set but also gives you insight into potential career paths within the golf industry. Collaboration with staff and members is common, and you'll likely be involved in both individual tasks and team projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a golf intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Golf Intern, you typically need a background in sports management, hospitality, or a related field, along with a passion for golf and basic knowledge of the game. Familiarity with golf course management software, tournament operations systems, and Microsoft Office is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude help interns excel in supporting staff, engaging with members, and handling multiple tasks. These competencies are vital for delivering high-quality service, ensuring smooth operations, and gaining valuable industry experience.

Job description

Company Description

American College Development Solutions (ACDS) is an international organization dedicated to the development of junior athletes into College-bound student-athletes, helping to expand their academic, athletic, personal and life skill-sets, while guiding them towards their ultimate goal of joining the ranks of the NCAA.

Since 2013, ACDS has pioneered student-athlete development in Asia, an initiative that is forecasted to double the number of NCAA-bound junior golfers from China by 2018.

ACDS is proud to be an Official Partner of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA), which stands as the gold standard of junior golf worldwide. ACDS lends its name to the ACDS Junior All-Star Series, the collection of AJGA events for players ages 12 - 15 and a primary focal point for College coaches. ACDS and the AJGA share a mission to help junior golfers achieve their goals of playing College golf and earning College golf scholarships.

For candidates interested in summer internships, interns will follow a specific schedule of travel between junior golf events and College campuses. During this time, Interns will chaperone junior golfers' and their parents and will be responsible for the family's logistics, positive experience and overall goodwill.
