Job description

Description The City of Caldwell Golf Department is looking for a Golf Professional to join their team. This individual manages activities related to the play of golf; performs professional and technical tasks related to promoting, teaching, and developing golf within the community; and operates and manages the city's golf pro shops. The work is performed under the supervision of the Golf Superintendent with extensive leeway granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

Direct supervision is exercised over assigned staff and golfers to ensure compliance with rules and maintaining the condition of the golf courses. The principal duties of this class are performed in an indoor and outdoor environment, which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards. This is an exempt position.

Responsibilities Oversees daily operations of the golf course pro shops and concessions, ensuring smooth and efficient service. Assists in creating and implementing merchandising strategies to increase facility revenue, including pro shop merchandise and food and beverage sales. Contributes to the development and execution of marketing initiatives aimed at increasing rounds of golf, including promoting the facility through radio, print, digital advertising, social media, and other promotional channels.

Manages merchandising, including selecting, purchasing, pricing, and maintaining adequate inventory of golf apparel, equipment, and concession items. Assists with pro shop and concession tasks as needed to support operations. Prepares and manages the annual budget for pro shop and concession operations.

Maintains accurate financial records, including cash reconciliation, deposits, and reporting for merchandise, tournaments, food and beverage, and daily golf operations. Ensures proper collection, documentation, and remittance of greens fees, cart rentals, trail fees, and all course revenues to the city treasurer. Maintains accurate inventory and point-of-sale records for all merchandise and supplies.

Manages the opening and closing of golf facilities, daily golf play, golfer access, reservations, and the tee time system. Oversees the check-in process, starting of play, and monitoring course pace. Verifies scorecards and computes handicaps.

Instructs and enforces course rules, provide updates on course conditions, and ensure a positive golf experience for all players. Coordinates with the golf superintendent on course maintenance schedules, facility readiness, and special event course preparations. Develops, organizes, and manages tournaments, leagues, clinics, and junior golf programs.

Provides individual and group golf lessons and clinics for players of various skill levels and retains a portion of lesson fees as compensation. Coordinates with golf associations, promotes tournaments, schedules outside events, and manages play around special events. Recruits, trains, schedules, supervises, manages performance, and evaluates pro shop, concessions, seasonal staff, temporary agency staff, and the assistant golf professional.

Keeps accurate records of employee schedules, performance, and time reporting. Oversees timecard entry, payroll reporting, and submits for payroll processing. Provides direction, task training, and support to employees to ensure quality work and adherence to standards.

Responds to public inquiries, complaints, and service requests in a courteous and timely manner. Consistently keeps supervisor and relevant team members informed about work progress, current and potential issues, and proactively suggests new or improved solutions to address challenges. Coordinates with internal and external partners to support efficient interdepartmental and community operations.

Establishes and enforces golf course policies, rules, and regulations and may initiate sanctions for non-compliance. Maintains compliance with city policies, procedures, and safety practices. Attends approved meetings, conferences, and training sessions, to remain current on the principles, practices, and developments in assigned work areas.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the golf superintendent, maintenance staff, city employees, golf associations and the general public. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education, Training, and Experience Required: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management, or a related field.

At least three years experience performing as a Golf Pro or Assistant Golf Pro. Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements: Possession of a current and valid driver's license Must be a member in good standing of the Professional Golfer's Association (Class "A"). Must be able to work varying shift hours, including evenings and weekends.

Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical, and drug test to include prescription medication.
