Job description

Department Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This contract may be renewed each July for an additional 12 months.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Development and implementation of GME procedures and policies as they relate to the oversight of residents/fellows and program performance concerns. Ensure that processes and policies are consistent with OHSU guidelines and procedures and align with the ACGME including Milestones, Clinician Educator Milestones, and the Clinical Learning Environment Review program. .
  • Provide assistance and oversight to program directors and residents/fellows with performance/advancement concerns. Ensure that the programs are using educationally sound processes and meet all documentation and due process requirements for learners going through individual education plans as set forth in GME policies and procedures. Conduct meetings as needed with program director, faculty and learner as needed to facilitate successful outcomes of performance concerns.
  • Provide assistance and oversight of individual GME programs that have significant programmatic concerns as determined by GMEC and/or the Designated Institutional Official (DIO). Conduct meetings with trainees, program directors and other SOM faculty to address specific program issues (e.g., ACGME citations, changes in program complement or leadership, resident/fellow concerns, etc.);
  • Assist in providing leadership in all programmatic and policy issues relating to GME;
  • Participate as a member of the GME Committee to help plan, implement and evaluate strategies and initiatives impacting GME programs at OHSU;
  • Assist the GME Division in assuring full implementation of the ACGME accreditation requirements, including Milestones and the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) program with the aim of ensuring an effective and respectful learning environment
  • Provide mentorship as needed for residency and fellowship programs, their directors, faculty and trainees;
  • Chair the monthly GME Committee meetings in the Chair's absence as requested by DIO;
  • Serve as "Acting Designated Institutional Official (DIO)" in the DIO's absence as directed by the DIO;
  • Interface with OHSU Hospital and Resident (OARFF,HQSC) leadership as needed;
  • Work effectively with the GME Division leadership and staff and attend GME leadership meetings;
  • Attend various standing and ad hoc committee meetings as necessary in the absence of the Associate Dean for GME;
  • Directly report to the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.
Required Qualifications
  • Member of OHSU faculty in good standing
  • Conversant with ACGME regulations and experienced in their implementation
  • Active participant in GME activities locally, regionally and nationally; experience on ACGME review committees or other national level is preferred.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively manage conflict
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple projects and people while understanding the internal and external influences on GME processes and structure.
  • Maintains central investment in resident/fellow advocacy
