Job description

Description
As an Authorization Specialist you will be responsible for obtaining prior authorizations, creating patient financial responsibility forms, creating the ASC financial collections worksheet and collecting patient financial responsibility prior to surgery. Our Authorization Specialists provide systematic process mapping and optimization to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in work flows and prompt professional communication with internal and external stakeholders striving to achieve the highest level of customer service. 
Schedule
8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday

What you will be doing
  • Establishing communication and working closely with the Surgery Scheduling Team
  • Reviewing chart documentation to ensure patients meet insurance guidelines
  • Obtaining any prior approvals or surgical/injection/solution authorizations needed from insurance company
  • Request, follow up, and secure prior authorizations prior to services being performed.
  • Communicating with MD/Scribe/Surgery Scheduler if Authorization is denied and steps/options to follow- initiate appeals when needed
  • Answering all telephone inquiries from patients regarding surgery authorization or other concerns
  • Verifying medical benefits for surgery and injections
  • Discussing benefits and costs of non-covered benefits with patients, create an estimated out of pocket worksheet. Secure any out of pocket financial requirements from patient
  • Interfacing with our Billing Department as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

What you know
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines

Desired
  • Experience with medical billing, coding and/or authorizations
  • Previous ophthalmology, healthcare or customer service experience
