Job Description
The Role
We are looking for a high-performing Design Release Engineer who is responsible for definition of requirements, execution of design, analysis, development, testing and management of engineering projects for Active Safety Components where creativity, initiative and independent judgment are involved. Exercises technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives. Consults with supervisor as required.
What You'll Do
  • DRE for ADAS Cameras including all elements of hardware and calibrations
  • System level understanding of functionality being supported, including ability to root cause issues
  • Capable of organizing and driving design for manufacturing initiatives
  • Develops component technical specifications as well as statement of requirements and subsystem technical specifications as required
  • Leads formal design, peer, and quality reviews
  • Leads resolution of technical issues
  • Leads product development team meetings
  • Leads/manages supplier resident engineers
  • Works closely with the Purchasing organization to support sourcing activities
  • Supports vehicle Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) activities
  • Primary GM engineering interface with the component suppliers
  • Knowledge of hardware and software interfaces
  • Ensure all vehicle program imperatives (cost, timing, investment, and quality) are met
  • Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs
  • Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development and can perform complex design and packaging analysis
  • Develops engineering designs (including subsystems) and implements engineering changes
  • Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data
  • Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
  • Plans and implements validation and/or development programs
  • Releases parts and subsystems for production
  • Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Travels as required

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Thorough understanding of Camera design, construction, assembly, operation and optics
  • Demonstrated experience with Camera Development and Integration into the vehicle
  • 3+ years of experience in a job-related area
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
  • Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering
  • Knowledge of software development and systems as it pertains to engineering preferred
  • Understanding of product design and process interdependencies
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
  • High level of oral and written communication skills

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge
  • Systems knowledge of camera-related operation and features, along with data pipeline and aligning performance with system needs
  • Prior experience in electrical/electronic component design/release is preferred
  • DFMEA training
  • Electronic Validation Experience
  • DFSS Certification
  • Software Controls/wiring experience
  • Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components
  • Experience with other Automated Driving sensors (Lidars, Radars, Ultrasonic Sensors) a plus
  • Any Calibration tool or modification skills are a plus
  • Understanding of HIL test methods
  • Prior experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering for DFM
  • Prior experience in Calibration work
  • Prior experience negotiating between parties
  • Prior experience outside automotive a plus for fresh perspective
  • Prior commercial experience a plus for negotiations with supply base
  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
  • Knowledge of Team Center Systems Engineering and/or IBM DOORS requirements management tools is a plus.
