GIS Intern – Airport

Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport

Hourly Range:  $14.17 – $21.25

 

Job Summary: The primary function of the GIS Intern is to be a technical resource to update and maintain Airport’s GIS data. The intern will review CAD drawings and historical paper maps, collect the spatial location of assets in the field with a GPS unit, and update the enterprise GIS data accordingly. The updated data will be used in Cityworks and other applications. They may also be given ad hoc tasks to maintain web maps, map series, and other GIS resources. 

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for maintaining digital geographic and tabular data within Airport’s Geographic Information System (GIS) enterprise database. Duties include comparing existing GIS data to alternative data sources (e.g. locate maps, CAD files); editing; digitizing; data conversion; post conversion editing; map and report generation; and data maintenance operations.
  • Responsible for collecting and verifying the spatial location of utility assets on airport property using mobile GPS collection techniques.
  • Create reports, maps and develop presentations of GIS projects, demonstrations and exhibitions.
  • Assist with other GIS duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A current resident of the State of Wisconsin.
  • Valid WI Driver’s License.
  • Associate’s degree in Geography, GIS, other Related
  • Less than one year experience in GIS, data collection and related software
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Intermediate Knowledge of Esri ArcGIS Pro

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Trimble DA2 and ArcGIS Field Maps
  • PREFERRED- Current student or recent graduate in Geography or GIS
  • PREFERRED – bachelor’s graduate + Certification in GIS graduate certificate
