Gallery Intern - Summer 2026

Intern will work under the supervision of the Gallery Director on researching, cataloguing, and rehousing objects in the Walsh Gallery's permanent collections. The intern will also assist the Gallery Director with conceptualizing, researching, and writing didactic text for the fall exhibition. Intern must have excellent problem-solving and organizational skills and be able to work independently following a hands-on training period. The internship is on-site and not eligible for remote work.
Work Schedule: 160 hours over 8 weeks (20 hours/week). Schedule will be determined in consultation with Gallery Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform research on artworks in the gallery's collection and object-based historical research
Write short texts that include descriptions of art objects, information about their historical context, and artist biographies
Photograph objects and edit image files.
Update catalogue records and write clear and concise object descriptions
Catalog new artifacts
Assist Director with planned fall exhibition
Handle art objects according to current standards and apply best practices for storing and describing art objects

Required Qualifications:

Post-graduate student seeking a degree in Museum Studies or related course of study preferred.
Interest in gallery and museum practices
Facility with Microsoft office suite and at least one software package used in archives, special collections, or museum collections.
At least one class or more in Art History or the museum professions.

Desired Qualifications:

Specific knowledge of art or museum collections software package
Specific coursework or training in art description or handling.

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour
