As of Aug 18, 2026, the average hourly pay for gigs in the United States is $15.91, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $9.62 and $18.03 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a gig?

A Gigs job refers to temporary, flexible work typically done on a freelance or contract basis. These jobs can range from short-term assignments to ongoing freelance work in various industries like delivery, writing, design, or ride-sharing. Gig workers usually have control over their schedules and income, making it a popular choice for those seeking flexibility. Many gig jobs are found through online platforms that connect workers with clients or tasks.

What are typical challenges faced by gig workers and how can they be managed?

Gig workers often face challenges such as inconsistent income, lack of job security, and balancing multiple assignments or clients simultaneously. Managing these can involve careful financial planning, proactive scheduling, and regularly seeking new gig opportunities to ensure a steady flow of work. Many successful gig workers leverage a variety of platforms to diversify their income streams and minimize downtime. Additionally, maintaining clear communication with clients and providing reliable service can help secure repeat business and positive reviews, leading to greater stability and success in the gig economy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a gig, and why are they important?

To thrive in gig work, individuals need strong time management, self-motivation, and adaptability, with qualifications often depending on the specific gig (such as rideshare driving, delivery, or freelancing) but typically requiring at least a high school diploma or equivalent experience. Familiarity with digital platforms, apps, and online marketplaces relevant to the chosen gig type is often necessary, along with any required licenses or equipment. Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills enable gig workers to build client relationships and manage multiple tasks efficiently. These skills are crucial for maximizing earnings, ensuring consistent work opportunities, and maintaining a positive reputation in a highly flexible and competitive environment.

Regulatory & Compliance Manager

Gigs

Amsterdam, NY

$180K - $220K/yr

Full-time

Job description

The Role

Gigs is growing fast across markets, and we need someone to build and operationalize regulatory and compliance systems to make that growth possible. This isn't just a compliance role; it's also a builder's role. You'll build workflows, design processes, ship tooling, and work across Business Development, Legal, Product, and Engineering. You'll enable how we launch new markets and how we stay compliant across the current footprint.

This is our first hire in this area. You'll shape the function from scratch.

Salary range:

  • EU: 90,000 - 130,000
  • UK: 90,000 - 130,000
  • US: $180,000 - 220,000

(The final offer depends on your background, skills, and how you perform through the process. We're open to considering outlier candidates, which may result in an adjustment to the scope and compensation)

What You Will Do
  • Build our operational infrastructure for market expansion. Own the end-to-end process for launching in new markets: regulatory readiness, product compliance checks, internal workflows, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Turn regulatory requirements into systems. Work with Legal to understand what's required, then build clear, repeatable processes that the team can follow without bottlenecks. Don't just document rules -- make them run.
  • Automate before it breaks. Partner with Engineering and Product to embed controls into our systems early. Reduce manual work. Build things that scale before they need to.
  • Own filings, registrations, and reporting. Manage our ongoing regulatory obligations across jurisdictions. Track deadlines. Make sure nothing slips.
  • Track compliance health. Define metrics, build dashboards, flag problems early, fix them fast.
  • Keep documentation sharp. Maintain policies, procedures, and process docs that are clear, findable, and up to date.
  • Stay ahead of regulatory changes. Monitor new requirements across target markets and subject matters. Build implementation plans before deadlines arrive.
What We Are Looking For
  • 5+ years of regulatory and compliance experience, ideally at a telecom company or other regulated tech business (fintech, payments).
  • You've built or scaled compliance systems in a fast-moving environment. You know how to take a messy process, structure it, and make it run.
  • Ability to research and interpret legal and regulatory requirements.  Experience and familiarity with common compliance areas, including consumer protection, privacy (e.g., GDPR, CPRA, LGPD), and infosec.
  • Real experience with compliance or regulatory work -- as someone who's turned regulatory requirements into working processes across areas like product compliance, vendor risk, or cross-border operations.
  • Comfortable with tooling: GRC systems, databases, workflow automation. You don't need to be an engineer, but you can build things using AI.
  • Strong communicator. You can explain a regulatory filing to an engineer and a process gap to a lawyer.

Bonus if you have experience in fintech, B2B SaaS, data privacy, or hold a law degree.
