How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. A Project Manager III is responsible for managing all aspects of a project from order intake through closeout, with some involvement during the quoting and award phases. This includes ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards while serving as the primary point of contact for the customer. Key responsibilities include scheduling, cost forecasting, progress reporting, managing subcontractors and partners, overseeing change orders and claims, and maintaining project cash flow. The role also requires full ownership of project performance, proactively addressing issues, protecting margins, and ensuring all deliverables, documentation, and final payments are completed at project closeout.
The successful incumbent effectively manages a challenging workload and, as needed, delegates tasks to supporting roles. Success in this role demands outstanding organizational, project planning, project management, and communication skills.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

  1. Project Leadership and Execution
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, assign tasks, and monitor execution from proposal through completion.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and consortium partners.
  • Coordinate communication with suppliers, construction teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage global project activities, including travel to job sites, meetings, and workshops.
  • Peer oversight and mentorship responsibilities

  1. Financial and Contract Management
  • Own project financials, including margin targets, cost tracking, and revenue forecasting (POC).
  • Develop and manage payment schedules and cash flow plans.
  • Oversee contract management, change orders, and claims processes.
  • Verify material costing, guides estimating strategy, and ensure as-sold margin accuracy.

  1. Scheduling, Risk, and Operational Oversight
  • Manage project timelines across engineering, construction, and supply chain functions.
  • Lead project risk assessment, mitigation, and insurance management.
  • Track deliveries and ensure timely, accurate fulfilment of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping and documentation requirements.

  1. Reporting, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain accurate project status reports and provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Oversee document control, including management of the Document Control List (DCL).
  • Drive Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Lead lessons learned processes to improve future projects and proposal development.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

Required Experience & Skills
  • 7+ years of project or construction management experience
  • Experience in power plant or similar industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems
  • Man-loaded project scheduling, large schedule buildout and unit-based project tracking experience
  • Knowledge of international shipments, logistics terminology, and requirements
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and drive project success
  • Self-reliant with the ability to manage projects independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and business acumen skills
  • Extensive understanding of construction contracts, risk strategy and mitigation, and lifecycle management
  • High level of ethical conduct

Ideal Experience & Skills
  • Experience in accounting, engineering, construction management, and/or supply chain
  • Experience with industrial processes, or power plants, as well as engineering documents, preferred
  • Product knowledge
  • Primavera (P6) scheduling experience
  • Strong understanding of complex project environments and cross-functional coordination

Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, business, or engineering, or related field
  • Certification according to the US PMI standard, preferred

Travel & Working Environment
  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday when not traveling or in the field. Hybrid scheduling available after successful completion of probationary period.
  • Ability to travel to construction jobsites for assigned projects to meet with construction crews and customers.
  • Often an outside environment; exposure to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
