Job description

Purchasing Manager - High-Volume Residential Plumbing Contractor
Location: Savannah, GA
Department: Supply Chain & Procurement
Employment Type: Full-Time | Exempt
Reports To: President
About the Company
We are a well-established, large-scale residential plumbing contractor specializing in high-volume tract home construction throughout the Southeast United States. We partner with the region's largest production home builders to deliver complete plumbing installation services - from rough-in to finish - on time and to the highest quality standards. As we continue to grow with the booming residential construction market, we are looking for a strategic and experienced Purchasing Manager to join our leadership team.
Position Overview
We are seeking a results-driven Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement function. In this critical role, you will oversee the sourcing, negotiation, and delivery of all plumbing materials and supplies that keep our field crews productive and our builder partners on schedule. You will manage a dedicated purchasing team, drive significant cost savings, strengthen supplier relationships, and ensure reliable material flow in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies to support high-volume residential plumbing projects across the Southeast.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of buyers and purchasing professionals.
  • Source and negotiate with manufacturers and distributors for pipe, fittings, fixtures, water heaters, drainage systems, and specialty plumbing products.
  • Secure competitive pricing, volume discounts, and favorable contract terms while maintaining quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Estimating, Pre-Construction, Project Management, and Field Operations to forecast material needs based on builder schedules and new community starts.
  • Monitor market trends, commodity prices, and supply chain risks to prevent delays and control costs.
  • Manage inventory levels across warehouses and jobsites to optimize working capital and material availability.
  • Drive value engineering initiatives and cost-saving opportunities without compromising code compliance or quality.
  • Utilize ERP systems to track spend, measure savings, and deliver actionable reports to leadership.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive purchasing experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role managing a purchasing team.
  • Strong background in the residential construction or plumbing industry.
  • Proven ability to negotiate large-volume contracts and deliver meaningful cost savings.
  • Solid knowledge of plumbing products, specifications, and building codes.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Direct experience working with major Southeast tract home builders (D.R. Horton, Lennar, PulteGroup, Taylor Morrison, etc.).
  • Familiarity with high-volume production home building and the material demands of plumbing contractors.
  • Experience with vendor-managed inventory programs or jobsite material logistics.

Key Competencies:
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, schedule-driven construction environment
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities

What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Performance-based annual bonus
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, Stock (ESOP) and 401(k) with company match
  • Company vehicle or auto allowance
  • Opportunities for career growth within a growing, stable plumbing contractor
  • Supportive team environment focused on quality, safety, and results

If you are a strategic procurement leader with a passion for the construction industry and a track record of success in high-volume purchasing, we want to hear from you!
