Job description

Ginger Cove is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide strategic and operational leadership across the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and working closely with the Board of Directors, the COO will play a critical role in translating organizational strategy into operational excellence and sustainable results.

The COO will oversee the day-to-day operations of Ginger Cove while ensuring that services, programs, resources, and organizational infrastructure are aligned with the community’s mission, values, strategic priorities, and long-term goals.

This executive leader will partner closely with the CEO, CFO, and members of the leadership team to advance resident satisfaction, quality and service excellence, workforce engagement and development, financial sustainability, operational performance, risk management, and organizational growth.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and highly visible leader who brings strong business acumen, sound judgment, operational discipline, and a genuine commitment to serving older adults. The COO will foster a culture in which leaders and employees are empowered to take ownership, collaborate across departments, continuously improve, and deliver an exceptional experience to Ginger Cove residents and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a key strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors in advancing Ginger Cove’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Translate organizational strategy into clear operational priorities, initiatives, and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide executive oversight of day-to-day operations across designated areas of the organization.
  • Evaluate organizational structure, processes, and resources to ensure Ginger Cove is positioned for long-term success, efficiency, and financial sustainability.
  • Identify emerging opportunities, operational challenges, and potential risks and develop strategies to address them proactively.
  • Stay informed of developments within the senior living, healthcare, regulatory, workforce, and broader operating environment that may affect Ginger Cove’s strategy or operations.

Operational Excellence & Performance

  • Establish and monitor key operational, financial, quality, workforce, and resident experience metrics.
  • Analyze performance trends and develop action plans to address gaps, mitigate risks, and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure departments operate in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure appropriate documentation, safety practices, resident rights, and quality standards are consistently maintained.
  • Lead organizational efforts to improve efficiency, service delivery, resident satisfaction, and overall operational effectiveness.

Financial Stewardship

  • Partner with the Chief Financial Officer and leadership team in the development, implementation, and ongoing management of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor financial and operational performance and ensure resources are utilized effectively and responsibly.
  • Evaluate operational investments, contracts, vendor relationships, and service agreements with consideration for quality, value, risk, and long-term sustainability.
  • Develop strategies that balance exceptional resident services with responsible financial stewardship.

Executive & Leadership Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor department directors and other members of the leadership team.
  • Build a high-performing leadership culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, business fluency, transparency, and continuous development.
  • Establish clear expectations and performance standards for leaders and support effective follow-through.
  • Identify leadership development and succession planning opportunities for key organizational roles.
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration and communication throughout the organization.
  • Promote employee engagement, retention, professional development, and a positive workplace culture.

Resident & Family Experience

  • Champion an organization-wide commitment to exceptional resident service and quality of life.
  • Maintain a visible and approachable presence within the Ginger Cove community.
  • Serve as an executive resource for residents and families, ensuring concerns are addressed thoughtfully, respectfully, and in a timely manner.
  • Partner with leadership and staff to identify opportunities to enhance resident satisfaction, engagement, and overall experience.
  • Ensure organizational decisions remain grounded in the needs, expectations, dignity, independence, and well-being of Ginger Cove residents.

Risk Management, Compliance & Quality

  • Provide executive leadership for Ginger Cove’s organizational risk management program.
  • Promote a proactive approach to identifying, evaluating, and mitigating operational, financial, regulatory, and organizational risks.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Support Ginger Cove’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and ensure leadership accountability for quality outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, ethical decision-making, and continuous performance improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate emergency preparedness and organizational response protocols are maintained.

External Relations & Organizational Representation

  • Represent Ginger Cove professionally and positively with residents, families, employees, community partners, vendors, regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with organizations and community partners that advance Ginger Cove’s mission and goals.
  • Participate in organizational events, community initiatives, and professional activities as appropriate.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Ginger Cove and its commitment to excellence in senior living.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Gerontology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred). Relevant equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in a senior living or healthcare environment.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, financial management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR), operations software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
