Job Summary

The Assistant Manager Snow Surfaces Manager assist Snow Surfaces Manager in the daily leadership and operation of the Snow Removal Department at Stevens Pass Mountain Resort. This position provides operational leadership for snow removal and heavy equipment operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and effective snow removal to support resort operations. The Assistant Equipment Operator Manager serves as a working leader by operating heavy equipment, coordinating daily work assignments, mentoring Equipment Operators, and maintaining a strong culture of safety and operational excellence.

This is primarily a winter seasonal leadership position with the opportunity for continued summer seasonal employment supporting road maintenance, trail construction, drainage improvements, infrastructure projects, and other mountain operations initiatives.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Snow Surfaces Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing daily snow removal operations.
  • This role supports overnight operations and generally follows a graveyard shift schedule, with anticipated hours of approximately 10:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to Equipment Operators while promoting a positive, safety-focused work environment.
  • Serve as Manager in Charge during assigned shifts or in the absence of the Snow Surfaces Manager.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, snow blowers, skid steers, and other equipment used in snow removal and mountain operations.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and prioritize operational needs based on weather, guest experience, and resort requirements.
  • Monitor equipment readiness and assist with fleet organization to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Assist with employee onboarding, training, mentoring, and ongoing skills development.
  • Support implementation of department policies, standard operating procedures, and safety programs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and minor repairs on equipment including fluid checks, inspections, tire changes, cutting edges, snow removal attachments, and general equipment upkeep.
  • Assist with planning and execution of snow removal, road maintenance, infrastructure, and special projects.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, equipment inspections, and maintenance documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with Grooming, Lift Operations, Ski Patrol, Mountain Safety, Facilities, and other resort departments to support daily operations.
  • During the summer season, assist with road maintenance, drainage improvements, trail construction, excavation, vegetation management, and other mountain operations projects.
  • Attend required company training and maintain all required certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Class A CDL preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum five years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely operate multiple types of heavy equipment in challenging mountain and winter conditions.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying mountain weather conditions, including snow, ice, wind, and extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during storms and peak operational periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ski resort operations or municipal snow removal.
  • Experience with CAT, Volvo, or similar heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of winter operations, snow removal planning, and alpine work environments.
  • Experience leading teams, coaching employees, and fostering a positive safety culture.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely climb into and out of heavy equipment multiple times per shift.
  • Ability to walk on uneven, snowy, icy, and steep terrain.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in an alpine environment.

The expected pay range is $26.60 - $38.00. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
