Job description

Convergint is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, results driven and forward-thinking Project &Service Assistant to join our amazing culture. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting higher level and more experienced technicians (e.g. Project & Service Specialists) in performing day to day work.  Acts as a “second set of hands” for the technician. Handles service and less complex/smaller install tasks. This position is a helper who will provide assistance to complete work required for service agreements, service calls, and quoted WO’s.  Work includes assisting with installations, servicing existing systems, programming, and/or system start-up/check-out. As a Project & Service Assistant, you are a part of a dynamic team that allows you to grow as Convergint grows.

What you’ll do with “Our Training and Your Experience”

  • Assist with installation and Service of Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) and Patient Security Systems (PSS) in Healthcare Facilities.  These systems utilize Infrared (IR) and Radio Frequencies (RF), as well as relay logic to locate Healthcare assets and protect patients.
  • This role is considered a "hybrid" role for in-house office remote support and requires some overnight travel, while it does vary, generally week in the field and week in the Grand Rapids office.  This travel time is based on Monday to Friday being home on weekends.  When in office, we support these systems by remoting into servers and end user computers for customer support.
  • Provides assistance to higher level and more experienced Project and Service Specialists. Work may include installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of systems and equipment which may include security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation with guidance as needed.  Refers more complex issues to higher level colleagues.
  • Reads basic blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications. Uses standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Acts as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times thereby ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service. Takes ownership of onsite project including safety, quality and performance.
  • Delivers parts and completes other odd jobs as requested.
  • Performs all work in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations as well as company health and safety policies and procedures. Uses solid troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
  • May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements.
  • Assists with the execution of the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including, programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and/or on-going technical support etc.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

What You’ll Need

  • Developing exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of, and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted
  • Developing technical skills and experience related to building automation systems, fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems
  • Ability to develop basic programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions
  • Must be a self-starter and work well without supervision
  • Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings; solid math skills (for some positions, this may include calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.)
  • Frequent visits to jobsites are required. Minimal overnight travel is required.  Valid driver’s license required.
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Basic computer skills including exposure to MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Requirements:

Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience

Preferred Experience: (but not required):

  • 3 months previous, relevant field experience
  • Experience in 1 or more of the following industries: electronic, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation
