Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the outpatient mental health setting provides comprehensive clinical and administrative nursing support to ensure safe, coordinated, and effective medication services. This role serves as a central liaison between prescribers, clients, pharmacies, insurance providers, and external service agencies to support continuity of care. The RN supports medication clinic operations, administers injectable medications, provides individualized medication education, conducts phone triage, manages medication-related documentation and prior authorizations, and maintains accurate clinical records. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team, the RN plays a critical role in care coordination, client engagement, and the delivery of high-quality outpatient mental health services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a liaison between prescribers, clients, pharmacies, insurance companies, and other service providers to support continuity of care.
  • Administer injectable medications in accordance with provider orders, agency policy, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide medication education to clients based on their clinical needs, level of understanding, and treatment plans.
  • Conduct phone triage, respond to client medication-related inquiries, and complete appropriate follow-up as needed.
  • Assist with the completion, tracking, and follow-up of prior authorizations and other medication-related documentation.
  • Support medication clinic operations, including preparing documentation, coordinating appointments, and ensuring required forms are completed accurately.
  • Monitor and report medication side effects, adverse reactions, and client concerns to prescribers in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary treatment team to support client care and treatment goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the operations of the outpatient mental health clinic.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduation from a Board-approved nursing education program (Diploma, ADN, or BSN from an accredited school of nursing) is required.
  • Must hold a current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association or equivalent) is typically required for clinical roles.
  • Previous outpatient or ambulatory care nursing experience, or clinical experience relevant to mental health settings preferred

Preferred:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
