Job description

The Lester Levy Sheet Music Collection, comprising over 30,000 popular songs, is one of the premier research archives in American popular music and a key digital repository at the Sheridan Libraries. We are seeking a Curator II who will conduct original research into the Levy Collection, in conversation with the library's other collections of popular music and Americana. The Curator II also manages specific collections or projects with increasing independence, contributes to acquisition strategies, develops exhibitions and public programs, and ensures professional standards in collections care and interpretation. The selected candidate will also play an active role in teaching, outreach, and daily operations.
NOTE: This is a 24-month grant-funded position, expected to end on 6/30/2028.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned curatorial functions under supervision and mentorship.
  • Contribute to the daily work of Special Collections and may recommend new processes and workflows.
  • Competent in using core information tools, resources, and methods in the area of expertise.
  • Committed to continuous professional development, including activities for personal and professional growth.
  • Participate in Libraries and Museums committee and task forces.
  • Assist and may co-teach one shot sessions.
  • Assist with research inquiries in assigned areas.
  • Recommend possible acquisitions as appropriate.
  • Participate in local and regional professional organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
