Job description

Position Summary
Tetra Tech is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Geologist based out of our Chantilly, VA location. Candidates with geology experience are invited to apply.
Essential Job Functions
The Mid-Level Geologist candidate will provide project management and technical support for environmental site assessment and remediation projects, related to federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. They will be responsible for reviewing, understanding, and implementing site-specific work plans and scopes of work.
The selected candidate should have experience in, and will be responsible for, management and execution of field investigations (including soil, water, and air sampling; drilling, well installation, subcontractor supervision, and coordination with analytical laboratories), construction and/or remedial action oversight, personnel field management.
The ability to interpret geological, hydrogeological, and environmental chemical data are integral to this position. Knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, geographic information systems, and hydrogeologic software applications, such as Aqtesolv®, and Earth Volumetric Studio, are highly desired. The candidate will utilize these skills in the preparation of technical deliverables including reports, letters, proposals, cost estimates, tables, and figures.
The candidate will be a seller/doer and continuously seek to grow business. Candidates should have a history of executing and managing environmental projects for key clients and generating work for themselves and others. The candidate will be expected to follow company safety standards, participate in safety training, and prepare as well as implement site-specific health and safety plans.
Required Qualifications
• BS/BA degree in Geology or a related discipline.
• 4+ years of professional environmental consulting experience is required, with history of increasing responsibility. Project experience should include: carrying out Phase I ESAs (ASTM-compliant), Phase II Site Investigations, UST compliance monitoring, UST closures, and vapor intrusion assessments. Previous field experience required, including supervision of sampling activities and environmental drilling operations, ability to work independently on field projects.
Knowledge, skills, experience:
o Experience preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams is required.
o Must be a competent technical writer.
o Attention to detail is required. The successful candidate must be able to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
o Ability to analyze and interpret chemistry and environmental data is required.
o Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers required.
o Ability to work as part of a larger project team.
o Ability to be self-motivated and work independently.
o Possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Needs to communicate effectively and make evaluated decisions for the betterment of the client and the company.
o Possess time management skills.
o Possess a strong health and safety ethic
This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
Please note that we are unable to offer relocation for this role. Chosen candidate should be in the greater Northern Virginia/Washington DC area upon applying.
Preferred Qualifications
• Working knowledge of the conceptual site model process is preferred. Experience including CERCLA RI/FS and PA/SI.
• Project management training or experience.
• Experience with DOD, federal, state, municipal, and private sector projects.
• Ability to assist with cost estimating and obtaining bids from vendors and subcontractors.
• Ability to review and summarize agency regulations, policies, and procedures into "plain English."
• GIS experience.
• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training, OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training, and/or 8-hour OSHA Supervisors of Hazardous Waste Operations Training.
Physical Requirements
• Candidate must be able to walk large project sites and must be physically able to carry up to 35 pounds of equipment (such as sampling tools, GPS unit, field screening equipment and cameras) during field work.
• Field activities take place in a variety of weather conditions and can occur in remote locations and include areas of uneven terrain or occur during harsh weather.
• Field sampling and monitoring may include various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, and air).
• Candidate must be able to work in an office environment and complete office-based tasks.
Work Environment/Environmental Factors
• The work environment will consist of a mix of office and fieldwork, with some field work requiring overnight stays.
