Job description

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Inpatient Psychiatry Service Provider. This role involves providing comprehensive psychiatric consultation and liaison services for the emergency room and inpatient service, as well as managing patients in the Behavioral Intervention Support Program (BISP). The position requires 24-hour coverage to ensure continuous and effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Acute Psychiatric Consultation: Provide timely and thorough psychiatric consultations for patients in the emergency room and inpatient service of adult and adolescent patients. This includes assessing, diagnosing, and developing treatment plans for patients with acute psychiatric conditions.
  • Consultation Liaison Service: Collaborate with medical and surgical teams to offer psychiatric expertise and support for patients admitted to the hospital with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions.
  • Behavioral Intervention Support Program (BISP): Manage and provide psychiatric care for patients enrolled in the BISP. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and adjust interventions as necessary.
  • 24-Hour Coverage: Ensure continuous psychiatric care by providing 24-hour coverage. This includes being available for emergency consultations, crisis interventions, and ongoing patient management.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, and therapists, to deliver integrated care for patients.
  • Education and Training: Participate in the education and training of residents and other healthcare staff.
    • Be responsible for advising/mentoring resident advisees assigned during each academic year.
    • Participate in resident evaluation, scheduling, and other administrative duties for the program.
    • Be available to the residents as needed for advice and counseling with respect to their career and educational goals.
    • Present didactic lectures for residents as scheduled.
    • Teach medical students as scheduled.
    • Actively participate in faculty development and didactic conferences as scheduled by the department.
    • Participate in residency recruitment planning and ranking/scoring meetings.
    • Participate in residency recruitment interview days as scheduled.
    • Attend regularly scheduled residency faculty and administrative meetings.
    • Regularly participate in organized clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs, and conferences.
  • Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of psychiatric services. Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of best practices.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Medical degree (MD or DO) with specialization in Psychiatry.
  • Licensure: Valid medical license to practice psychiatry.
  • Experience: Experience in inpatient psychiatry, with a focus on consultation liaison services and behavioral intervention programs.
  • Skills: Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Certifications: Board certification or board eligible in Psychiatry.

Working Conditions:
  • Environment: Hospital setting with exposure to patients with acute psychiatric conditions.
  • Hours: Full-time position with 24-hour call coverage responsibilities, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Hospital-based 7 on 7 off model, with flexibility within the department schedule

Report to the Chief Medical Officer and the Psychiatry Program Director
