  • JOB HIGHLIGHTS

    POSITION PURPOSE:  The International Marketing Manager is responsible for increasing international visitation and awareness of metro Detroit. The position will support the development and implementation of global marketing strategies, conduct market research, manage the destination's brand image, create marketing campaigns, and build partnerships with stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry.

    LOCATION & SCHEDULE: 

  • Full-time, Exempt
  • This position currently involves a hybrid working model with 2 days remote and 3 days in-office in Detroit, MI.
  •  WHAT WE REQUIRE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, International Business, or related field
  • 4-6 years of experience in marketing, international marketing, or destination tourism marketing
  • Proven success in developing and executing marketing strategies
  • Strong understanding of global travel markets and cultural nuances
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and analytics platforms
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally
  • Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver’s license. 
  • Valid, unrestricted passport; necessary for overseas travel.
  •  PREFERRED:

  • 6+ years of experience in marketing, international marketing, or destination tourism marketing
  • Multilingual; fluency in an additional language is a plus
  • Familiarity with Detroit’s tourism assets and global positioning
  • Prior work with international agencies, travel trade, or Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs)
  •  HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Develop and execute marketing plans tailored to specific international markets, considering cultural nuances, economic factors, and travel trends.
  • Recommend marketing objectives, identify target audiences, and support the selection of appropriate marketing channels to maximize impact and efficiency in each market.
  • Analyze in-depth research to understand international market dynamics, consumer behavior, and competitive positioning.
  • Analyze data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to inform and refine international marketing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent brand identity for the destination in international markets.
     Adapt marketing materials and messaging to resonate with diverse cultural contexts while ensuring compliance with established brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to develop and execute marketing campaigns, promotions, and product launches in international markets.
  • Collaborate with the Tourism and Communications teams to identify and establish partnerships with key stakeholders in the international travel industry, including airlines, tour operators, travel agencies, receptive operators, and media outlets.
  • Support negotiations, develop joint marketing programs, and foster long-term relationships to enhance the destination’s global visibility.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to create engaging and informative content for various marketing channels, including websites, social media platforms, and brochures.
  • Showcase the destination’s attractions and experiences in ways that appeal to international travelers and support overall visitation goals.
  • Committed to partnering with Visit Detroit in embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into company culture and operations, and actively contributing to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all employees and stakeholders.
  •  OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Developing and managing marketing budgets for international campaigns, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and tracking return on investment (ROI).
  • Attend international trade shows, exhibitions, and other marketing events to promote the destination and generate interest in visiting Detroit.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to assist the team with handling communication with international media outlets to enhance Detroit’s brand and reputation.
  •  REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

    • Strong foundation in marketing principles, strategies, and best practices, with a focus on international marketing and cultural considerations.
    • Knowledge of international market research methods, consumer behavior trends, and marketing analytics, with the ability to interpret data and provide recommendations.
    • Understanding of brand management principles and the ability to adapt marketing messages and materials for diverse international audiences while maintaining brand consistency.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external agencies, and international tourism industry partners to support marketing initiatives and destination awareness efforts.
    • Working knowledge of digital marketing channels, content development, and campaign execution across multiple platforms.
    • Excellent communication skills including the ability to clearly express thoughts, ideas, and concepts, verbally and in writing, in the English language.
    • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments.
    • Creative and adaptable in fast-paced environments.
    • Builds and maintains effective relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
    • Consistently demonstrates professionalism in attitude, appearance, and behavior.
    • Effective in both remote and in-person settings; proficient with video conferencing tools.

    • Available to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

     PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Office work involves extended periods of sitting or working at a desk, utilizing repetitive typing motions on a computer or laptop, and reading text on a video display monitor.
    • Ability to perform extensive standing and/or walking for work-related assignments and events.
    • Ability to lift, push, and/or carry up to 40lbs. occasionally. 

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 

    • This role requires extensive international travel.
