From the scorer's box and penalty boxes, our Off-Ice Officials play an important role in every home game, tracking the details that become part of the official game record. Depending on your assignment, you could be keeping the official score, operating the game clock, tracking penalties and statistics or serving as a goal judge. If you know the rules, understand the game and can stay focused when the arena gets loud and the action gets fast, this could be your seat for Rock Lobsters hockey.
POSITION OVERVIEW The Off-Ice Official supports the accurate administration and documentation of home games in accordance with applicable league rules and requirements. Working from the scorer's box, penalty box or other designated game operations areas, this position performs assigned officiating functions that may include official scoring, game clock operation, penalty box administration, goal judging and statistical tracking. The role requires accuracy, objectivity and consistent attention throughout live game play.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Game Operations: Perform specific off-ice official duties including Official Scorer, Game Clock Operator, Penalty Box Attendant, Goal Judge, and Shot/Stat Tracker.
  • League Compliance: Accurately record goals, assists, penalties, shots on goal, plus/minus, and time-on-ice in full compliance with league regulations.
  • Communication: Coordinate seamlessly with on-ice referee crews, linesmen, league stat operators, and visiting team staff during games.
  • Post-Game Verification: Verify official game stats post-game with referees and submit official scoresheets to league representatives.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Deep understanding of professional hockey rules, terminology, timing, and statistics.
  • High level of focus, composure, and strict objectivity during high-intensity live game situations.
  • Previous experience in hockey officiating, scorekeeping, or high-level athletics administration highly desired.
  • Must have reliable transportation and 100% commitment to required home game dates (evenings and weekends).
