Job Summary
The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Digital Studies Institute at the University of Michigan, invite applications for a LEO Lecturer (I or Intermittent) for DIGITAL 202 position (one at 50% effort, one at 35% effort) for the Fall Term 2026. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026 and end on December 31, 2026.
Responsibilities*
Duties of these LEO Lecturer positions are expected to include teaching discussion sections, attending class meeting sessions, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a LEO Lecturer (I or Intermittent) in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester. Full-time and part-time positions are available.
There are two LEO Lecturer positions for this course, both part-time - one is a .5 (50%) position and the second is a .35 (35%) position. The faculty instructor for this course is Dr. Toni Bushner.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluating and grading coursework
- Holding regular office hours to assist students throughout the course
- Being available over email to the students, and helping students in case they have any questions pertaining to the course
- Attending all lectures (T/TH 11:30 - 1:00 PM) and instructor meetings.
The 50% position will be teaching three (3) discussion sections per week
The 35% position will be teaching two (2) discussion sections per week
The discussion section days/time are as follows, with final assignments decided in collaboration with the course instructor:
- Friday 12:00 - 1:00 pm
- Friday 1:00 - 2:00 pm
- Friday 2:00 - 3:00 pm
- Friday 3:00 - 4:00 pm
- Friday 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Required Qualifications*
This is a limited availability position. The candidate must have knowledge of digital culture and have a history of successful teaching within this topic. The candidate must have the ability to effectively teach and evaluate undergraduate students
The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

Course Description
Course Title(s): DIGITAL 202: Digital Culture
Course Objectives:
This course will foster a deeper appreciation of digital media and technologies through analyzing popular works, the platforms on which they are distributed, and the technologies used to create them. We will examine the ways in which people express themselves through digital media and what that media has to say about the culture that created and elevated it. We will be engaging with a variety of mediums including audio, video, games, and readings. Lectures and discussion sections are designed to fully integrate the different aspects of the course.
A brief overview of topics covered include: theorycrafting/knowledge-making in online fan communities, experimental digital art, game analysis/game studies, movement from the analog to the digital, algorithmic recommendations.
This course is accessible to all undergraduate students at all levels. Students who are interested in learning more about digital media fan/production communities and Internet art are encouraged to take this class, as well as those who are interested in a deeper appreciation of games, internet video, and internet-based music genres such as chiptune and vaporwave.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .
